Elliot cleared his throat awkwardly. “Dad, you know about what’s been going on at my school, right? The whole forum thing?“.

David finished washing and drying his hands, then nodded. “Yeah, I know. What about it?”

“Um, could you help out and make sure that girl doesn’t get expelled?” Elliot asked, looking at David.

David raised an eyebrow. “Don’t tell me the girl you like is the one who posted those rumors on the forum? Let me tell you, I wouldn’t want someone like that to join our family.”

Elliot looked exasperated. “No, Dad, why do you always jump to these conclusions? I’m just saying, no one really got hurt, and her family’s having a tough time. Can’t you just give her another chance?”

David raised an eyebrow, “So, you’re really not into her?”

Elliot groaned, “Dad, seriously, are you going to help me out or what?”

David shook his head. “I can’t help.”

Elliot asked, “Why not?”

David sighed, “Your grandma is watching this like a hawk. What am I supposed to do? You know how she is. She runs the whole show around here, then your mom. I barely even get a say.”

Elliot was about to speak, but David interrupted, “Let me put it this way–think about whose last name we all have.”

Elliot was totally lost. “What do you mean?”

‘What does our last name have to do with anything?‘ Elliot thought, baffled.

David continued, “Your grandpa isn’t some live–in son–in–law, but we all go by your grandma’s surname. Just think about how much power she has in this family. Once she makes a decision, no one can change it. There’s nothing I can do.”

After a beat, he added, “Honestly, if that girl gets expelled, it’s her own fault. If she really came to school to study, who could kick her out?

“She knows her family is struggling, her parents aren’t made of money, and yet she spends her time messing around with drama instead of hitting the books.

“I checked her grades–they’re always at the bottom. Tuition at Premier Academy isn’t cheap. If she gets expelled, maybe it actually helps her parents out.”

Elliot was about to say something else, but David had already turned to leave. Before walking out, he tossed back one last piece of advice. “Elliot, birds of a feather flock together. The people you spend time with shape who you become. I want to see you do well–don’t throw your life away.”

With that, David walked out of the bathroom. Elliot lingered for a bit, then finally took out his phone and called Tiffany.

Tiffany picked up almost instantly. “Elliot, so, how did it go? Did your grandma say she’d help Nora?”

Elliot frowned, suspicious. “You know my grandma?”

Tiffany faltered, “Um… Nora mentioned her to me.”

Elliot said, “Tiffany, Nora’s really no good. You’re better off staying away from her. If she’s getting expelled, so be it. Don’t worry yourself over her problems.”

Tiffany was freaking out inside. ‘If I don’t help Nora, she’ll definitely drag me down with her. I can’t let that happen. But I can’t tell Elliot the truth either.

Putting on her sweetest tone, she said, “Elliot, Nora is my good friend. I can’t just abandon her. Please, just help me this once. Consider it me owing you. Whatever you want, I’ll try my best to make it happen.”

Elliot took a deep breath. “Once my grandma makes up her mind, that’s it–and the school already made it official, nothing’s going to change. Tiffany, you’re really sweet and good–hearted. Don’t let Nora bring you down. Just let it go.”

Tiffany wanted to say something else, but she didn’t know what. In the end, Elliot said, “I gotta get back to the room. Seriously, remember what I said–stop hanging out with Nora. I’m hanging up now.”

After hanging up, Elliot slipped back into the private room, keeping quiet–there was no way he was about to breathe a word about helping Nora to Bonnie or Gloria.

Once dinner was finished, the whole family made their way home together.

Since Elliot couldn’t help and Hugh wouldn’t step in either, Tiffany was out of options. There was nothing else she could do, so she just stopped worrying about Nora’s problem altogether.

The next day, when Nora showed up at school, she got hit with an expulsion notice–told to get her paperwork done ASAP.

She finally snapped, dragging Tiffany into the restroom. “Tiffany, you promised you’d have my back! Why am I still getting kicked out?”

Tiffany was fuming. “This is all on you! Why did you have to go stir up drama with Alicia right outside Linen` Bay Residences? Didn’t you know Elliot’s grandma lives there too?”

“I didn’t know,” Nora mumbled.

Tiffany was momentarily speechless, then gritted her teeth. “Look, this whole thing was already handled–you messed it up. And now you expect me to clean up your mess?”

With that, Tiffany turned to leave, but Nora grabbed her arm, voice trembling with anger. “Tiffany, don’t act innocent. You’re the one who put me up to all this! If you can’t keep me out of this mess, I’ll go to the school with everything. If I’m getting expelled, then we both go down together.”

Tiffany was floored that Nora would actually threaten her. She shot her a seething glare. “Nora, have you ever thought about yourself or your parents? You seriously want to start a war with me? Fine–do it, and I’ll make sure your whole family’s life in Riverdale is over.”

“You…” Nora was shaking with fury, her eyes red.

Tiffany’s tone softened, trying to reel Nora back. “Nora, look, my dad can help you transfer to another school. You can still get your diploma–it doesn’t have to be from Premier Academy. And I’ll give you 15 thousand dollars as compensation.”

Nora really had no other choice but to accept Tiffany’s offer.

She bit down hard, her voice icy. “This time, you damn well better follow through.”
