Chapter 116
She stood up like a soldier about to go to war
“Well, if it isn’t the careless brother himself.”
Liam ran a hand through his hair, eyes on me first, then on her. “I deserve that. But I didn’t sleep with her, Sophia. I didn’t do this.”
“Well, she says it’s your child.”
“She’s lying. I’m working on fixing this.”
”
“You’d better fix it fast,” she snapped. “Because I swear to God if she walks in here…”
A knock interrupts her mid–sentence.
We all turned to the door.
Sophia moved like she already knew who it was. “You have got to be kidding me.”
“}
She stomped to the door, flung it open, and screamed, “Absolutely not! Turn your lying little legs around and disappear!”
I rushed behind her, and Liam was right behind me.
Cassie stood at the door in a sundress, her makeup light, a soft little fake tremble in her voice.
“I came to see you, Liam,” she said sweetly. “You haven’t returned my calls. My doctor says my pregnancy is high–risk. I need rest, support. Monitoring. I just thought you should know…”
“GET OUT!” Liam shouted so suddenly it rattled something in me.
Cassie flinched, her eyes wide. “Liam…”
“I said leave!”
But before things could explode again, I stepped between them.
“Wait,” I said softly. “Let’s just hear what she came to say.”
Sophia turned to me, wild–eyed. “You cannot be serious.”

Cassie folded her arms, smug. “At least someone is still sensible around here.”
That was it
Sophia lost it. “If you don’t get off this doorstep right now, I swear I’ll send you home in pieces.”
Cassie smirked but didn’t fight back. “Fine. But I’ll be back. And you’ll all see I’m not lying.”
Liam looked ready to tear her apart.
I grabbed his hand. “Liam. Please. Go inside.
He looked like he wanted to argue. But he nodded.
I turned to Cassie. “We’ll talk again. But not like this. Not now. Please just go.”
She gave me one last look. “We’ll see how understanding you are when reality kicks in.”
Then she walked off.
Sophia slammed the door shut and leaned against it, breathing hard.
“I don’t understand how you’re still being nice to that girl.”
“I’m not being nice,” I said quietly. “I’m just… too exhausted to fight her. I want to go through this clear–headed.”
She looked at me, her anger softening into heartbreak. “You don’t deserve this.”
“I know.”
“I swear, Em… if I could carry this for you, I would.
I gave her a small, sad smile. “You’re already doing enough.”
“I’ll be back,” I say quietly. “I need to check on him.”
Liam’s room was dim, the curtains pulled halfway open. He sat by the window, his back slightly hunched, shoulders still.
“Liam,” I said softly. “You have to calm down. She’s trying to…”
He turned slowly.

And stopped me cold.
His face wasn’t angry.
It was broken.
His hands were elenched, trembling slightly.
In one of them, my phone.
My heart dropped.
I’d meant to delete it.
Looks like I didn’t move fast enough.
He looked at me, voice rough and low.
“She sent this to you?”
I nodded, throat too tight to speak.
His eyes scanned the message again, then closed slowly.

“I’m giving him what you never could.” He whispered it like it tasted rotten in his mouth. “Time to step aside. He’s mine now.”
He looked back at me.
