Chapter 117
“I’ll make sure you have help,” Liam said, his tone leaving no room for argument. “A nurse will handle whatever you need.”
She didn’t miss a beat. “No. I want to stay with the father of my child.”
Sophia leaned forward. “What exactly are you implying?”
“I’ll be moving in with Liam.”
Sophia shot to her feet so fast the coffee table jolted. Jay caught her around the waist before she could launch.
“Not worth it, Soph. Not yet.”
“You’re out of your mind,” Liam told Cassie, voice edged steel. “That’s not happening.”
Her voice hardened. “If you turn me away, I’ll make sure everyone knows you shut me out while I‘ m carrying your child.”
Sophia laughs once, sharp and humorless. “Try it. See how that plays out.”
I stayed quiet, because I knew exactly how it would play out. The internet wouldn’t care about truth, only scandal.
If she went public, my cooking page wouldn’t be about food anymore. It would be about Liam, about her, about me. People would pick sides, and the work I’d fought for would be buried under
noise.
I didn’t have to fight for that. Not now. Not when there was another way to buy time.
“It’s fine,” I said, my voice steady. “You can move in.”
The room froze. Even Cassie blinked before recovering.
“What is wrong with you?” Sophia burst out. “She’s gunning for you and you’re handing her bullets?”
“Calm down,” I tell her, managing a small smile. “Please.”

Then I tumed to Liam. “Can we talk in private?”
In Liam’s room, the door shuts behind us.
“Explain,” he said
I told him the truth. That I couldn’t risk this going public, not when my head was already a mess. I’d rather deal with her under this roof than deal with millions of strangers dissecting our lives. My voice cracked on the last word.
He crossed the space between us in two strides, pulling me against him. “I’m sorry. This will be the last time anyone disrupts our peace. I swear it.”
When he pulled back, his eyes were fixed on mine. “If she’s moving in here, you’re moving in too.”
“I’m almost always here anyway.”
“No,” he says firmly. “This time, it’s every day until she’s gone. I’m not giving her the chance to think she’s winning.”
“My mom…”
“I’ll speak to her myself.”
Back in the living room, the air was cooler, though Jay is still holding Sophia’s hands like he doesn’t quite trust her not to launch across the room.
Cassie was told she could move in tomorrow. She left with a little smile that makes me want to
wash the air behind her.
Liam told Sophia and Jay we’re stepping out. “I need to speak with Emily’s mom.’
Sophia hugs me tight. “I’ll be here tomorrow. We’re not done talking.”
Jay grinned. “I’ll be here tomorrow too… just to make sure Sophia doesn’t bury anyone in the backyard.”
A laugh escaped me before I could stop it.
He stepped closer, pulling me into a hug. His voice dropped to a whisper. “This will be over
