Chapter 171

I sat back, chewing on that. She wasn’t wrong.

“I’ll help you,” I said finally. “I’ll talk to him.”

“What’s the catch?”

I grinned slowly. “I’ll tell you later.”

“So he either says no, or he says yes. And if it’s yes, you’ll still make your demands for helping.”

I leaned in with a wicked smile. “Exactly. Either way, Soph, you’re doomed.”

We laughed, but I couldn’t shake the thought of what would happen when Liam found out.

As the day of Liam’s return drew near, Sophia grew increasingly restless. She moved around the house like she couldn’t sit still, and it almost made me laugh. Out of everyone she could have been worried about- Henry, Laura, even Jay, it was only Liam who had her nerves fraying.

The morning he was due back, she barged into my room before I’d even left the bed.

“What’s the plan?” she blurted, wringing her hands.

I burst out laughing. “Sophia, breathe. I’ve got this. Relax.”

Her gaze

darted toward the window as if Liam might materialize at any moment.

“You don’t get it. Liam has a soft spot for you, which is why you don’t see what the rest of us see. Even Dad’s careful around him when he makes up his mind. If Liam doesn’t want Mason near me, he’ll make sure it never happens, and no one will ever know how he did it.”

I leaned back against my pillows, smiling. “Then lucky for you, I’ll make sure he accepts Mason. Leave Liam to me.”

She slumped a little, though panic still lingered in her eyes. I tilted my head, smirking. “So… dating a superstar now? For someone who avoids the spotlight, what’s your strategy?”

Sophia groaned, covering her face. “Don’t remind me. Mason keeps pushing to go public, post pictures, stop hiding. I’ve been dodging him every time.”

Ichuckled “Well, I dated your brother, and my life hasn’t been the same since And yet, here I arm Still standing”

She muttered, “Seeing everything you went through with Liam is exactly why I’m scared.” Her hands dropped, and she sighed. “And of all men, why Mason?”

“Careful, Soph Keep talking like that, and I’ll record you saying you regret it and send it straight

to him.”

Her eyes flew wide, and she glared. “Don’t you dare, Emily”

I grinned. “What’s the matter? Butterflies already? Sounds like love.”

She groaned, standing from the bed. “I liked you better before you got corrupted. At least back then you weren’t throwing my tricks back at me.”

I gasped dramatically. “Excuse me? You’re the one who corrupted me!”

Sophia shook her head with a smile tugging at her lips as she left. “Sure. Keep telling yourself that

In the evening. I insisted on picking Liam up from the airport. Sophia tagged along, claiming it was part of her “good sister” act, her way of softening the ground before breaking the Mason

news

When Liam stepped out, my heart leapt. I hugged him tightly, his lips brushing mine in a kiss that chased away the days he’d been gone.

“Welcome home,” I whispered.

Before I could draw him in again, Sophia came forward, wearing the sweetest smile I’d ever seen. “Welcome back, big brother. How was your trip?”

Liam gave her a long, suspicious look. “Alright, Sophia. What are you up to?”
