His Private Chef (by Amycee) novel Chapter 180

Chapter 180

Liam was the first to break the stillness. He dropped to his knees in front of me, his hands hovering like he wasn’t sure where to touch.

“Emily, are you really in labor?”

“Yes.” My voice came out on a sharp breath. I pressed a hand to my stomach as another contraction clenched through me. “I’m having contractions.”

That was all he needed. He was on his feet again, his voice commanding and decisive.

“Sophia, grab the bags. Jay, call the hospital and tell them we’re on our way.

Sophia didn’t even argue; she bolted upstairs, returning with our overnight bags so quickly it was as if she’d flown. Mason took the bags gently from her hands, sparing her the weight. Jay’s phone was already to his ear, rattling off details to the hospital and then to Henry, Laura, and my mom.

By the time I made it to the front door, Liam had the car pulled up. Sophia was on one side of me, Mason on the other, guiding me carefully.

“Give me the keys,” Mason said firmly when Liam moved toward the driver’s seat. “I’ll drive.”

“No.” Liam’s grip tightened on the wheel. “I can manage.”

“You’re shaking,” Mason countered.

“I’m fine.”

The next contraction surged through me, tearing a cry from my throat. I bent forward and snapped, “Liam Black, if you don’t get out of that seat right now, prepare to welcome your child in this car.”

That did it. Liam came out without another word. Mason got into the driver’s seat with quiet assurance, starting the car while Liam took the passenger seat.

Jay was still on the phone, updating everyone. Sophia rubbed my arm, soft words tumbling out in an effort to soothe me, until she suddenly gasped, her eyes glued to her screen.

“What?” I asked, panting.

Her face broke into a grin, pure excitement bubbling through “It’s 12:03 am. Happy birthday to me and my niece She’s making her grand entrance on my day!”

Even through the contractions, I managed a small, tired laugh

The hospital was ready when we pulled in A private entrance had been cleared, and waiting at the curb were two nurses in crisp uniforms, a doctor in a white coat, and an aide with a plush wheelchair

Liam was at my side instantly, his hand steady on mine as they helped me down. The nurse smiled warmly. “Welcome. Everything is prepared upstairs. Let’s get you comfortable.”

I was wheeled straight into a private elevator, bypassing the bustle of the main floor. Within minutes, we entered the suite reserved for us. It was spacious, softly lit, furnished more like a hotel than a hospital room. A large bed, monitors discreetly built into the cabinetry, a comfortable space for family, and a catering cart prepared with refreshments.

Money could not dull the pain tearing through me, but it made every edge of the experience smoother, quieter, more controlled.

The lead nurse moved with practiced case. She checked my vitals, then strapped the monitors across my belly. The rhythmic thump of my baby’s heartbeat filled the suite, steady and strong.

“You’re at six centimeters,” she said after examining me. “Contractions every five minutes. You’re

in active labor.”

They adjusted the bed, dimmed the lights at my request, and spoke in low, reassuring tones. An anesthesiologist stood by, waiting for my word, but I shook my head, gritting through the waves of pain.

The contractions tightened, searing through me. Sweat dampened my hairline as I gripped Liam’s hand with everything I had.

“I hate you,” I gasped when the next one hit. “I swear, Liam. Don’t touch me again. Ever.”

His lips brushed my temple, his voice breaking. “I won’t. I’m sorry. Curse me if you have to. Just keep breathing, Em. I’m right here.”

“Breathe?” I snapped, half-sobbing. “You breathe!”

He moved his hand closer. “Bite if you need to.”

I nearly did.

The doctor entered, gloving up with brisk precision. “Emily, when the next contraction builds, I want you to push. We’re close.”

The fire rose in my belly.
