The nurses moved with seamless efficiency, their voices low, never once breaking the bubble. They cleaned our daughter gently with warmed clothes, weighed her on sterile scales, measured het tiny length, and called out her Apgar scores with professional clarity: eight, then nine. She was strong and healthy.
After an hour of monitoring, when they were certain the baby and I were well, we were taken from the delivery suite to the postpartum floor and settled into a private suite waiting for us.
I drifted into sleep, exhaustion claiming me while Liam sat beside the bed, our daughter nestled in his arms as though the world itself could wait until he was ready to let her go.
When I woke again, the room was filled with gentle awe. My mother, Henry, and Laura were already there, speaking in hushed voices as they took turns holding her. Even Henry’s usually commanding presence softened, his large hands surprisingly careful as he cradled his granddaughter.
“She’s perfect.” Laura whispered, eyes shining as she leaned over to study the baby’s face. “Who does she look like?”
I turned my head, watching Liam through half-lidded eyes. He smiled, brushing a thumb along our daughter’s cheek. “It doesn’t matter. She’s ours.”
Laura smiled softly. “Have you chosen a name?”
I nodded, my eyes finding Sophia across the room. “Yes. Sophia Lisa Black.”
In my heart, I knew why. They were the two who never stopped believing she would come, even when I thought it impossible.
Sophia froze, her eyes widening. Then she laughed and cried at once, clutching her chest. “God, Emily, you’re trying to split my heart in two!”
The room erupted with laughter.
She took her niece into her arms, gazing down with wonder. “Oh, I’m going to spoil you. Our birthday will always be the loudest.”
“Not with those crazy pre-bashes,” Liam warned.

Chapter 181
“Let’s revisit that after she turns eighteen, brother.”
More laughter Sophia looked back at me, her eyes shining, and mouthed a single word.
Thank you.
Sophia Lisa Black had entered the world wrapped in love, laughter, and the kind of joy that stitched families together.
After two nights in the hospital, we were cleared to go home. Liam had arranged everything so our departure would remain private. He was determined that the world would meet our daughter on our terms, not theirs.
The drive was quiet, filled with the soft sound of Sophia breathing in her carrier. My fingers brushed the edge of the blanket covering her, as if I needed to keep reminding myself she was real and not some dream I might wake from.
At the estate gates, I caught sight of a massive banner stretched across the entrance: Welcome Home, Baby Sophia. My eyes flicked to Liam, who was already smiling.
“You did this?” I whispered.
His lips curved, pride unmistakable in his eyes. “Of course.”
A smile surfaced on my face, born of pure instinct. Inside, the house had been transformed. Balloons floated overhead, ribbons curved along the staircase, and fresh flowers filled every corner with color. The house felt alive with celebration, every detail speaking of Liam’s hand in it.
“How?” I asked him, genuinely stunned. “You were with me every second at the hospital.”
“I gave the order,” he said simply, pulling me closer. “And when I give an order, things happen.” He kissed my forehead gently. “Thank you, Emily. You’ve made me the happiest man alive.”
