Chapter 183
“I’m not asking you to force it.” I said softly. “Only to consider it. I’ve already forgiven him, Liam I even invited him over
His head snapped toward me, shock flickering in his eyes. Silence lingered before he finally asked, “How can you forgive him that easily after what he did?”
I smiled faintly. “Because she’s here. Our daughter is here. You’re here. And I don’t want to drag old shadows into this new life with us. Kelvin said he misses what you two once had. Maybe… maybe it’s time to let the bitterness go.”
He looked at me for a long moment, searching my face. Finally, he nodded.
“I hear you. I’ll think about it.”
The days blurred into a rhythm only new parents know. Sixteen weeks had passed since Sophia’s birth, and every new day carried its own surprises. Parenthood was a constant lesson. Learning and unlearning, stumbling and then finding our footing together.
With the help I had, recovery was almost embarrassingly easy. My body had healed enough that I was no longer treated like I might break. The constant hovering had eased; I could move freely again, and I craved the normalcy of doing little things for myself:
But as the weeks went by, something else began to weigh on me.
I had long since been cleared at my six-week check, given the green light to resume everything. Yet here we were, sixteen weeks into parenthood, and Liam still hadn’t reached for me in the way I expected he would.
At first, I told myself Liam was simply giving me space, letting my body recover at its own pace. But even when I reached for him, when I let my touches linger, wore the nightgowns he used to love, he brushed me off with a soft excuse and a careful smile.
It wasn’t in my head.
Something had changed.
And the questions came creeping in, ugly and insistent. Did he not find me attractive anymore? Has my body changed too much? Was there someone else?

No Not Liam He can’t I strangled that thought before it could take root
But I couldn’t silence the insecurity that bloomed in its place

One afternoon. I cornered Big Sophia while she was on the phone with Mason. He was still begging her to star in his music video, a song he had written for her. She kept refusing, and I suspected she enjoyed how desperate he sounded.
I leaned against the doorframe, waiting until Mason’s laugh rumbled through the speaker. “I need to borrow her. Mason.” I said, smiling faintly.
“Take her.” Mason said easily. “But make sure she calls me back.”
When Sophia finally hung up, she eyed me. “What’s up with the serious face?”
I need the truth. Don’t sugarcoat things. What do you think of me now, my body, everything. Has it changed?”
Her brows furrowed. “Who said something to you?”
“No one.” I admitted quickly. “I just… I need to know.”
Sophia studied me for a moment, then shook her head firmly. “No, Emily. If anything, you look even better. And this is not me hyping you up, I’m telling you the truth.”
“Then why…” My voice cracked. “Why is Liam avoiding me?”
Her expression softened with understanding. “Ah. So that’s what this is about.” A teasing smile tugged at her lips. “You really should ask him. He’s the only one with that answer.
I groaned. “So helpful.”
“Hey,” she teased, wagging a finger at me. “Your daughter isn’t even six months old yet and you’ re already complaining? Relax. Some of us go years without…”
“Sophia”” I grabbed a pillow and launched it at her, my cheeks burning.
Her laughter followed me as I stormed out, but her words stuck. Ask him.
That night, I tried again. I reached for Liam, and again, he pulled away with gentle hands.
“Do you not find me attractive anymore?” I looked him straight in the eyes as I asked.
