Chapter 186
I laughed, dropping onto the couch beside her and flashing my ring like a lovesick fool. “Still, it feels surreal.”
Her eyes softened as she leaned in to study the ring.
“It’s beautiful. I’m glad you love it.”
Meanwhile, Liam had already disappeared down the hall. Big Sophia still had the baby monitor resting on the couch beside her, and through it came the soft murmur of his voice from the
nursery.
“Guess what, sweetheart,” he whispered, boyish excitement threaded through every word. “Mommy said yes.”
Sophia’s lips curved into a grin as she glanced at me. “It’s about time. You’ve been a Black in everything but paperwork. Now it’s official.”
Her words warmed me, my chest tightening. “Thank you. For everything. For being the sister I never had.”
Her eyes glistened. Mine too. Until she abruptly waved a hand. “Enough tears. It’s a wedding, not a funeral. You know what I’m actually excited about?”
I sniffed, curious. “What?”
“The bachelorette night.” Her grin turned wicked.
My stomach dipped. “Sophia…”
“We’re going to a male strip club, baby!”
I nearly choked. “What?”
She shrugged, all nonchalance. “You’re tying yourself to one man forever. The least you can do is admire the variety one last time.”
”
I pressed a palm to my forehead. “Oh, God. Sophia, what am I supposed to do with you?”

“Enjoy me,” she shot back.
“But you know how Liam is. He’ll lose his mind if he finds out.”

“Exactly. Which is why he won’t.” She leaned closer, eyes gleaming. “I’m not even telling Mason. Total secrecy.”
Her thrill was contagious, though my nerves tangled with it. “Fine. I’ll try. But pray Liam doesn’t disarm me with his usual tricks. You know what he’s like.”
“Lover girl,” she scoffed. “It’s simple. Keep your mouth shut.”
“With your brother?” I groaned. “Impossible.”
She just rolled her eyes.
I went upstairs to change, excitement still buzzing through me. My hands trembled as I reached for my phone to call my mom, ready to blurt out the news. But before I could get the words out, she cut me off with a knowing smile in her voice.
“I already know, sweetheart,” she said.
I blinked, stunned. “Wait, you knew?”
“Of course. Liam told me,” she replied.
I sat there, deflated, staring at my phone as Liam walked back in with that smug grin he’d perfected. “Really, Liam? You robbed me of the one thing I was looking forward to, the dramatic ‘surprise, I’m getting married‘ moment.”
”
He chuckled. “Em, everyone already knew. You’ve been mine for a long time. The ring just made it official.”
