Chapter 185
Lately, I noticed Liam and Sophia huddling in low-voiced conversations that broke off the second I entered the room. Something was brewing, but I didn’t pry. Motherhood has taught me patience,
after all
One Saturday, Liam told me to clear my evening. “It’s our night,” he said.
Sophia chimed in, suggesting a spa morning first. “Because if I don’t get pampered soon, I’ll riot.”
I agreed easily. The day blurred into indulgence: massages, manicures, hair treatments. By the time we returned home, I felt reborn. After a nap, I dressed for the evening, curious about Liam’s secretive smile.
He drove us to a rooftop he’d reserved entirely for us. Candlelit tables glowed beneath fairy lights hung across the open sky, the city shimmering below like scattered jewels.
We dined, laughed, teased, and flirted the way we always did best. Liam kept complimenting me, insisting I looked more beautiful than ever. Motherhood, he said, had only made me more radiant, the new curves driving him insane with admiration.
But when dinner ended, Liam didn’t turn toward home.
“The night isn’t over,” he said, eyes gleaming.
We pulled up to a house, large and elegant, achingly familiar. Its design echoed the first home we shared, before Cassie shattered those walls.
Inside, he guided me straight to the kitchen.
Flowers covered the counters in bursts of color. Red petals curved across the floor, leading to the center where, in delicate script, a sign glowed: I love you, Emily.
I blinked, half-laughing. “Did I miss Valentine’s Day?”
“Every day with you is Valentine’s,” Liam said.
His words went straight to my soul.
Then his voice deepened, thick with emotion.
“Emily,” he began, his hands closing around mine, “I thought about flying you somewhere

breathtaking Paris Maldives St. Barts Monaco Anywhere in the world. But then I realized our story didn’t begin in any of those places. It began here, in a kitchen. The first time we met, you stood in mine, and without even knowing it, you changed my life.”
His thumb brushed over my knuckles
“You are the best gift life has ever given me. You gave me love when I didn’t deserve it. You gave me Sophia when I thought nothing else could make me whole. You’ve made me a better man, every single day. And I never want to imagine a life without you at the center of it. So here I am…”
He got down on one knee, his eyes never leaving mine.
“…asking you to make me the luckiest man alive. Emily, will you marry me?”
My vision blurred as tears fell, my head nodding before the word even formed. “Yes. Yes, of course I will!”
His smile broke, raw and beautiful, as he slid the ring into my finger. He rose, and I fell into his arms, our kiss sealing the moment in a rush of heat and promise.
When we finally pulled apart, I whispered, laughing through tears, “So this is what you and Sophia have been plotting? Even the spa this morning?”
“Guilty,” he admitted, grinning. “I’m shocked you didn’t press for answers.
“Patience,” I teased. “Motherhood taught me that.”
His smile deepened. “And marriage? What will that teach you?”
