When Hilton pushed open the door, he was met by Mr. Royce’s unmistakable smile. Unable to hold back his curiosity, he asked, “Mr. Royce, you seem to be in quite the good mood today.”
Hilton quietly pulled the door shut behind him and lowered his voice. “I’ve visited Yael a few times now. His attitude hasn’t improved, still as hostile as ever. But when I brought up that matter, his expression changed instantly. He looked absolutely terrified.”
Cedric coughed softly, prompting Hilton to immediately hand him a glass of water.
“Even the worst parent wouldn’t harm their own child,” Cedric said, his voice a little rough as he took a sip. “Yael knows the real story behind his son’s fatal accident.”
He paused, the glass still in his hand. “But for some reason, he’s chosen not to make it public. I doubt he’s even told his wife.”
...
After ending her call with Cedric, Lumina closed the book she’d been reading about visa procedures. She rubbed her temples, lost in thought for a moment, before dialing another number.
On the other end, it seemed the person had been waiting for her call, because he answered almost instantly. “I was beginning to think you’d forgotten about me.”
Lumina’s tone was soft and a little playful. “I’m sorry. I’ve been really sick these past few days. I didn’t want you to worry, so I haven’t answered your calls.”
Soren’s hand stilled on his pen, a faint frown creasing his brow. “What kind of illness? Do you need me to come over?”
She let out a gentle laugh. “No need. You can hear I’m fine now, right? I just wanted to call and let you know I’m okay.”
Hearing the lightness in her voice, Soren’s concern eased. “Next time, don’t keep things from me. I could take care of you.”
“Alright,” Lumina replied softly, her words carrying a subtle, teasing undertone. “How about dinner together tonight?”
Soren’s eyes brightened, a smile tugging at his lips. “With such a rare invitation from you, how could I possibly refuse?”
Lumina’s lips curved knowingly. “If you always wait for the woman to take the initiative, people might start talking, Mr. Royce.”
