Lumina stood there for a good two or three seconds before murmuring her thanks.
Her mind was still spinning with all the gossip she’d overheard, leaving her restless and on edge.
The truth was, she didn’t want to see him—didn’t even dare.
Ever since Harriet had uncovered her pregnancy, Lumina hadn’t slept well for a single night.
Every time her phone buzzed with a new message, her heart would leap in panic, half-expecting Harriet to change her mind and spill everything to Cedric—or worse, to the rest of the Royce family.
Night after night, she was haunted by nightmares.
She dreamed of the Royce family dragging her to an operating table, forcing her to get rid of the child.
The cold machinery pressing between her legs, the searing pain as it tore her apart piece by piece—it all felt unbearably real.
Lumina lingered outside the HR department, hesitating before quietly asking, “Jace, could you go upstairs and get it for me?”
Jace gave her an odd look. “Mr. Royce specifically asked for you by name, Lumina. It wouldn’t make a difference if I went.”
She hesitated, but after thanking him, turned and made her way upstairs.
All the while, she tried her best to look calm and collected.
When she reached the office door, she knocked.
From inside came Tonia’s sweet, syrupy voice, “Who is it?”
Steadying her breathing, Lumina replied, “It’s me, Lumina. I’m here to pick up my resignation paperwork.”
