His Untamed Rose novel Chapter 106

Lumina lingered by the doorway and made small talk with Tonia. “How are you settling in at work?”

Tonia beamed and slipped her arm through Lumina’s. “I’m settling in just fine. And if there’s anything I don’t know, Mr. Royce is happy to teach me himself. You can leave with a clear conscience, Lumina. With me here, the department will be perfectly fine!”

Lumina couldn’t help noticing Tonia’s shirt collar was still a little rumpled, the buttons obviously done up in a hurry. Combined with the faint blush on her cheeks, it was all too easy to put two and two together.

Lumina smiled. “Good to hear.”

Tonia didn’t linger, humming a cheerful tune as she walked away.

Winona was in the back office, dropping off some files. Seizing the chance, Lumina slipped inside, hoping to grab her resignation paperwork and make a quick exit—she had no desire to be alone with him.

But as soon as she stepped up to his desk, she heard him wave Winona off. “You can go now.”

Winona hesitated, clearly reluctant to leave. She bit her lip. “Cedric, are you coming home for dinner tonight? Ansel bought you a birthday gift—he’s waiting to give it to you.”

Cedric didn’t even look up. “I need to stop by my family’s place tonight.”

A flicker of disappointment crossed Winona’s face, but she nodded dutifully. “Alright.”

As she turned, she caught sight of Lumina standing nearby. Her eyes turned cold, and she shot Lumina a glare before sweeping out the door, closing it firmly behind her.

Lumina pretended not to notice, stepping to the desk and picking up her resignation letter from the corner. Her voice was barely above a whisper. “I’ll be taking this.”

She made to leave quickly, hoping to catch up with Winona and avoid being alone with Cedric.

“Wait.” Cedric set his pen down, his tone calm.

Lumina’s breath caught, and she stopped in her tracks.

She watched as Winona left, not so much as glancing back, the door clicking shut behind her.
