Cedric rubbed his brow. “Grandma, I understand everything you’re saying.”
“Understand? You say that, but I see right through you. You treat her poorly, and you’re always running around with other women,” Seraphina retorted.
Lumina couldn’t help but let a small, amused smile slip. She suspected that, in the entire Royce family, only Seraphina could truly keep Cedric in check.
Cedric gave a helpless laugh. “That’s a bit unfair, don’t you think?”
Seraphina snorted. “Unfair? Don’t kid yourself. You know exactly what you’ve done! And what about that Winona? Are you still in contact with her?”
Cedric’s long fingers methodically peeled a grapefruit. “She’s raising her child alone in Banyan Town. It’s not easy for her. Besides, you know full well why I look after her.”
Seraphina turned away stubbornly, making it clear she didn’t even want to listen anymore.
Just then, the doorbell rang from the hallway.
Nancy hurried to answer it. She popped her head back into the room, looking flustered. “Mr. Royce, it’s… Ms. Tatum is here!”
Seraphina’s face darkened in an instant. With a loud clatter, she slammed her coffee cup against the table’s edge. “She is not coming in! Tell her to leave immediately!”
Nancy hesitated, then added, “Ms. Tatum says her son is ill. Their heater’s broken, and the only bed in the house is ruined. She’s asking if she can stay the night—just for her boy’s sake.”
“Absolutely not!” Seraphina had had enough. “If she wants to stay, she can pay the full rate of a five-star hotel!”
“Grandma, you’re being unreasonable,” Cedric said, exasperated. “Let me handle this.”
