Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 123

Mrs. Salmeron and Caroline both stared in shock, completely thrown off by Amelia’s reaction. They never expected her to actually talk back instead of obediently coming over to give Mrs. Salmeron a foot massage.

“Amelia! Who do you think you’re talking to?” Mrs. Salmeron shot up from the couch, face flushed with anger, ready to let loose. But Amelia didn’t even look her way. She just walked straight into the study and closed the door behind her.

The study had two rooms, and in the inner one, Timmy sat at the computer, totally absorbed in fixing his code. He’d tried a bunch of times, but the program still kept glitching.

Timmy frowned as another error popped up. A message flashed on his screen from his teammate.

No luck.

The reply came right away. Maybe we should just ask our advisor for help?

Timmy wasn’t ready to give up. Let me give it another shot.

Amelia slipped in quietly and stood to the side, watching him. She liked how Timmy didn’t quit easily. Still, seeing him try over and over, with that red error popping up again and again, and his little brow furrowing tighter each time, made her want to help.

She bent down and spoke softly. “Need Mom’s help?”

Truth was, Timmy had noticed her as soon as she came in. He didn’t mind her being there, which was why he hadn’t told her to leave.

Now, hearing her offer, he turned and looked at her, doubt in his eyes. “You?”

Amelia smiled. “I know a bit about computers too. Want to let me try?”

Timmy hesitated for a few seconds, then hopped down from his chair and let her sit. He figured it couldn’t hurt. If she messed it up, he could always fix it. If he said no, she’d only smile and say it was okay, but her eyes would look sad. He didn’t like that.

Amelia took the seat, fingers flying over the keyboard as she worked through the bugs in Timmy’s code. She moved slower than usual, choosing a fix that was just tricky enough for him to follow along.

Timmy watched the screen, eyes lighting up with excitement.

“That’s awesome!”

Twenty minutes later, Penny came running in, holding a fat strawberry. “Dinner time! This strawberry is so sweet, I brought one for you—” She stopped short when she saw Amelia there. Her happy little face fell.
