“That triple security lock was seriously impressive. It took my best team the whole morning just to get through it,” Will said, shaking his head in disbelief.
He leaned forward, curiosity written all over his face. “Who set that up? If you don’t mind, I’d love to meet them.”
Whoever designed security like that had real talent. Will was already thinking about how amazing it’d be to have someone like that join his own team.
Kristen took a sip of tea, looking calm and collected. “I really don’t know. I just became head of R&D. I found the computer locked one day—and there are some confidential files on it I need for my next project.”
Will was a little disappointed, but he couldn’t help feeling happy for her. “Cloudcrest’s head of R&D is no small thing, Kristen. You’re still so young. The sky’s the limit for you.”
Kristen smiled, a little embarrassed. “You’re exaggerating. Look at you now. Getting you to come over? The whole department’s been buzzing about it all week.”
Will had spent the last few years overseas, working on projects with the International Space Station. He’d only come back last month, on a national invitation, and now he was collaborating with the government and military on top-secret projects.
Honestly, he’d only made time for Cloudcrest because Kristen had asked. Otherwise, he probably wouldn’t have even picked up their call.
“There’s no need to stand on ceremony with me,” Will said, looking at her. His eyes softened as memories from years ago came rushing back. “I told you—if you ever need anything, and I can help, I’ll be there. No questions asked.”
He truly meant it.
