Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 181

Clive had hurt her hand again. The sting was still fresh from when he’d grabbed her just moments ago.

Amelia gave a small, bitter smile, mocking herself before pulling it together and lifting her head. Her eyes were clear and steady as she faced him.

“Salmeron, don’t forget that machine is mine. We have a contract.”

She didn’t bother saying the rest out loud.

If that equipment wasn’t in her hands by the end of the week, she’d hire a lawyer and sue, no question.

But right now, she just didn’t have time for this. She was slammed until Saturday, and dragging things out would only tip Clive off and give Kristen more time to prepare. It would be pointless to argue.

Without looking back, Amelia left the restaurant and caught a cab at the curb.

“Baybridge University, please.”

Through the rearview mirror, she saw Clive step out after her. He just stood there by the door—watching, but not moving.

He wouldn’t come after her.

She knew that better than anyone.

In Clive’s world, she was always the one chasing him. He’d never lower himself to meet her halfway. That just wasn’t who he was.

It had always been like this.

Amelia let out another bitter laugh, closed her eyes, and let the exhaustion roll over her. Years of heartache and disappointment pressed down on her like a wave.

This relationship had left her drained, inside and out. She was tired, broken, and honestly, she didn’t know how much more she could take.

Michael followed Clive outside, watching as Amelia’s cab disappeared into traffic. He couldn’t help himself.

“Clive, why don’t you just go after her? Talk to her, sort it out.”

Before Clive could answer, Cameron walked up and caught the end of the conversation. He scoffed, “Why bother? Amelia’s just putting on a show. If you chase her now, she’ll only push you further.”

Clive didn’t say a word.

His mouth was set in a hard line, his gaze locked on the spot where Amelia’s cab had vanished into the city.

She had definitely come here for him.

After all, she didn’t know anyone else who’d be at this restaurant. She’d rushed in, barely catching her breath, and that alone brought back memories for Clive.

Back in the day, every time Amelia came to see him, she’d run.
