Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 183

“All right, boss. If you need anything, just call me.”

“Okay.”

Amelia hung up and let out a breath. The key was still stuck in the lock. Her injured hand couldn’t get it out, so she used both hands, struggling for a moment before finally pulling it free. The force made her stumble back—right into someone’s steadying hand on her shoulder.

She was about to turn around when a familiar, hesitant voice broke through the air.

“Little junior?”

That nickname hit her harder than she expected. It felt so far away, like it belonged to another life.

She turned slowly. The second she saw Greg, her eyes went red with tears.

“Greg...”

And standing next to him—of course, she recognized her, too.

Susie, her senior. Her mentor. Her “big sister.”

“Susie...” Amelia called quietly.

Susie looked almost exactly the same as before. Still wearing a white lab coat, hair tied back in a simple ponytail, that calm, cool scholar vibe about her. The only change was a quick flicker in Susie’s eyes when she saw Amelia—then her face went cold again, not even responding to Amelia’s greeting.

Amelia got it. Susie had always been blunt, never one to hide how she felt. If she was distant now, it was just what Amelia deserved.

Seven years ago, she’d left without a word. Not only did she break Dr. Borgen’s heart—nearly making him sick with worry—she’d left a mess for everyone else to clean up.

Susie had every right to be upset.

“Little junior, you’re really awake? That’s amazing!” Greg was always the friendly one, and now he looked both shocked and thrilled, like he could barely believe she was real. “Last time I told Robert I saw you at the gate, he said I was imagining things! I’m taking you to see him right now, so he knows my eyes are just fine!”

Before Amelia could react, Greg grabbed her wrist through her sleeve and started to lead her away.
