Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 212

Amelia didn’t need to hear a word. Just looking at Clive, she knew Kristen had played him like a fiddle again.

Kristen, huh? He sure said her name like they were so close.

“Whatever Kristen says, you believe without question.” Amelia let out a bitter laugh, dropping her gaze. When she looked up again, her eyes were cold, almost pitying. “Fine. If that makes you happy.”

She’d had enough. She pulled at Clive’s hand, trying to break free and leave.

But her cool attitude only made Clive snap. The anger he’d just managed to control flared right back up.

“Did I say you could go? What’s with this attitude?” Clive’s hand clamped down on her shoulder, so hard it felt like he wanted to hurt her.

Amelia’s brows knit in pain, but she bit back any sound, refusing to let him see her break.

“Amelia, just say it. Tell me what you mean.” Realizing he was being rough, Clive yanked her back, both hands braced on her shoulders, holding her in place.

He looked at her like he was the one who’d been wronged. With that face—those soft, soulful eyes—anyone would think he was the victim and she was being unreasonable.

Fine. If he wanted the truth, she’d give it to him.

“Kristen told me that the bottle of oil was something you bought especially for her. She used what she wanted, then passed the leftovers to me because she didn’t want to waste it.” Amelia stared him down, her voice steady and clear.

Clive just frowned, shaking his head, jumping to Kristen’s defense without missing a beat.

“I know Kristen. She’s not like that.” Then he paused, as if a lightbulb went off. “It must have been Lena. She probably said something to make you misunderstand.”

He’d known Kristen for years. He was sure he knew exactly what kind of person she was.

And from the start, Amelia had always had it out for Kristen, just because the kids liked Kristen more, and because Kristen had been by his side these past five years.

To Clive, Amelia was just jealous, seeing things that weren’t there. Probably Lena had said something careless, and Amelia twisted it, blaming Kristen. And Kristen was never good at defending herself, always tripping over her own words.
