Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 397

Clive and his group made their way over, their arrival stirring up the tension in the air.

Cameron wasted no time, his voice ringing out with a bite. “Wow, Ms. Sadinton. Came with a friend, leaving with a friend. Looks like you’re going home empty-handed tonight, huh?”

Belle bristled, ready to throw something back, but Amelia squeezed her hand—a silent “let it go.” She knew all too well how petty Cameron could get, and Belle jumping in would only make things messier.

Amelia handled it herself, meeting Cameron’s smug look head-on, giving him a slow once-over with a sweet, dangerous smile.

“Mr. Henson, you almost look respectable. Too bad you haven’t figured out how to talk like a decent person. We were just at a company dinner. What exactly was I supposed to ‘score’? Oh, wait. You must be used to moonlighting every night, always out ‘scoring’ something for yourself. Is that why you assume everyone else is on the same grind?”

Cameron’s face went beet red. “Amelia!”

Felix, who’d been standing off to the side, ducked his head to hide a laugh.

It hit him then—he’d seen Amelia before. At The Hollow Beat, she’d been the one quietly munching fruit in the middle of a crowd of flashy women, looking so plain he’d barely noticed her. Now, up close, he realized just how stunning she actually was. Kristen had always been his standard of beauty, but suddenly, standing next to Amelia, Kristen just didn’t measure up.

Meanwhile, Clive actually felt the weird tension in his chest ease when Amelia mentioned the company dinner. Somehow, that made him feel a little better.

He was about to say something when Felix stepped forward, hand outstretched, flashing Amelia a friendly grin. “Ms. Sadinton, right? Felix.”

Amelia just looked at him, confused and unmoved. She had no intention of shaking his hand. He might seem rich, but as one of Clive and Kristen’s friends, she wasn’t interested in getting chummy.
