She already had a feeling—if the head of Group A wasn’t Will himself, it had to be someone he knew, and Will must’ve put in a good word for her.
Kristen could hardly hide how pleased she was. The corners of her lips curled into a sly smile as she tilted her head back to look up at Clive’s handsome face. Her voice softened, almost coaxing. “Clive, don’t stress. You’ll get your board seat back in no time. Mr. Baker’s birthday party is next week—let’s go together. As long as we keep him happy, and with Mr. Russell helping out, landing that government contract is pretty much a sure thing.”
“This project lasts ten years, with billions in orders every year, and we’d be the only private group working with the military. If we can pull this off…” Kristen rose on her toes, her red lips brushing against Clive’s ear, her words a playful whisper. “Even ten Sammys couldn’t touch us.”
She let her arms slide down, her soft hands trailing over his chest, moving lower and lower. Her touch was like a slow burn, leaving a trail of heat every place she touched. Finally, her hand slid over his belt and kept going, bold and daring.
Clive clenched his jaw, barely holding it together.
Kristen’s teasing had turned his anger into something else entirely, a hot, restless energy building up fast.
But suddenly, out of nowhere, Amelia’s face flashed through his mind, and then Sammy’s annoying voice—calling out that grating “baby”...
Clive’s brows pulled into a sharp frown.
He’d never called Amelia anything so cheesy in his life. Not once.
And Amelia, with her stiff, old-fashioned ways, hadn’t even shut it down over the phone?
Were those two actually getting together behind his back?
Jealousy hit him hard, mixing with everything else already burning inside him.
In a flash, Clive grabbed Kristen’s wrist, pulling her away from him and pressing her down against the edge of his desk.
Her back hit the desk and before she could say a word, Clive’s mouth crashed onto hers—nothing gentle about it, just raw, desperate need, like he wanted to swallow her whole.
“Salmeron…” Aiden burst into the office, clutching a stack of papers, ready to report. He stopped dead, eyes going wide at the sight of Clive and Kristen tangled up on the desk.
Aiden just stared in disbelief, then spun around so hard he nearly tripped, his mind screaming.
My eyes! My eyes!
How was he supposed to survive this job? Didn’t his sanity count for anything?
