Kristen felt a rush of happiness. This was the first time Clive had ever been so openly affectionate with her in front of everyone.

“Okay,” she replied softly, her smile sweet as she leaned into Clive’s arms.

Amelia, on the other hand, felt like she’d just witnessed something she could never unsee. Still, she had things she needed to say to Clive.

“Clive, hold on a second,” she called out, stopping him before he could walk away.

Clive’s eyes glinted with sarcasm as he paused, his tall figure still for a moment before he turned to face Amelia coming toward him.

“What do you want now, ex-wife?” He put extra emphasis on the last two words.

She was the one who’d asked for the divorce. He’d given her so many chances, even argued with his dad for her. But Amelia was the one who decided she didn’t want to be Mrs. Salmeron anymore. Now that things weren’t going so well for her, she wanted another shot? Yeah, no way was he forgiving that easily.

Amelia looked him up and down. “Salmeron seems fully recovered. You can be back in court again. Andrew will reach out to set a date. Please take care of yourself this time. If you’re feeling weak, you should get that sorted out early.”

Clive heard the edge in her voice and guessed that seeing him with Kristen must’ve stung.

His face turned cold. “Forget about custody. Don’t even think about it.”

Kristen leaned closer, gently reminding him, “Clive, the Green Wall team will be here any minute. We should clear out anyone who isn’t involved. If the delegation sees this, it won’t look good.”

She’d barely finished when a crowd swept into the room. Right in the center was Dr. Diego Wade himself.

Clive turned quickly and spoke in a low voice to Aiden, “Get Amelia out of here. Now.”

Aiden hesitated for a second before saying, “Ms. Sadinton, the Green Wall delegation is here… Maybe you’d be more comfortable waiting in my office for a bit?”

Amelia just smiled and found herself a seat in the corner. “Relax. I’m just here for the show.”

Aiden looked confused but said nothing more. Clive, meanwhile, was already striding over to greet Dr. Wade.

“Dr. Wade,” Clive said, putting on a polite smile and bowing slightly as he shook the professor’s hand. “Welcome to Cloudcrest. I know we scheduled for ten, but you’re here a bit early. The welcome reception is all set up.”

Diego waved off the formality. “I came early on purpose. I can’t stand all that ceremony.”

Clive had unintentionally blocked the view, so Diego didn’t spot Amelia in the background. He remembered she said she’d arrived, and was about to look for her when Kristen walked over.
