The man snapped, “What are you trying to do? Start a fight right here on the street?”
That voice... It sounded oddly familiar.
Behind her sunglasses, Amelia gave the man a second look. The more she stared, the more certain she became.
Then it hit her—he was the guy who’d stepped in for her at Blue Plate Special last time.
His name was Francisco.
One of Ryan’s men.
A dull headache pulsed behind Amelia’s eyes. She couldn’t help but worry that Ryan would pop up out of nowhere again, just like before.
Anyone else, she could deal with. But Ryan... she really didn’t want him to see her like this—messy and completely out of sorts.
“And who are you supposed to be? Mind your own business!” Caroline jerked her hand away, eyeing Francisco up and down.
The suit he wore didn’t have any flashy branding, but you could tell it was expensive. The watch on his wrist probably cost more than her car. And the way he carried himself? Total old-money confidence.
Caroline’s gaze flicked over to Amelia, who was standing behind him, looking all cool and fragile—like she’d just stepped out of a sad movie. Suddenly, it all made sense.
No wonder Amelia had the nerve to act up now—she’d snagged herself a rich guy. She had backup.
Caroline let out a cold, knowing laugh and shot Amelia a vicious glare. “You shameless bitch. Just you wait.”
With that, she spun around and stormed off.
Francisco watched her go, clear disgust on his face.
Looks like Mr. Packman hadn’t taught her enough of a lesson last time.
Turning back, he gave Amelia a warm, easy smile.
“Well, what do you know? We meet again.”
Amelia tried to smile. “Yeah, what are the odds? You’ve saved me again, Francisco.”
