Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 76

Amelia glanced in the rearview mirror, sneaking a look at the backseat.

She couldn’t actually see Ryan’s face—just his long, elegant hands scrolling through his phone, totally absorbed, like she was invisible.

Little by little, she felt her shoulders relax.

Ryan probably hadn’t recognized her.

Since Amelia had taken the front passenger seat, Francisco was stuck in the back. It was his first time riding with his boss, and he sat stiffly, hands awkward on his knees. He glanced at Mr. Packman, who was next to him, still scrolling on his phone with a face so cold it could freeze the air. Then he looked up at Amelia, sitting bolt upright, barely moving.

Francisco felt the weird tension settle over them, thick enough to choke on.

He tried to break the silence. “Um, I just realized—I don’t actually know your name, miss.”

Amelia wasn’t about to give herself away in front of Ryan. She lifted her left hand, letting her wedding ring catch the light, and lowered her voice, “I’m married, so… not ‘miss.’ I’m someone’s wife.”

Francisco went rigid, sneaking a nervous glance at Ryan.

The man’s sharp, handsome features were hidden in shadow, unreadable. He didn’t react at all, as if Amelia hadn’t spoken.

He honestly didn’t seem to care.

Fifteen minutes later, the car rolled up to Baybridge University.

Amelia opened the door and stepped out. She was about to say a polite goodbye, but the car pulled away before she could get a word out, cold and efficient, leaving her on the sidewalk.

In the backseat, Ryan’s dark eyes lingered on her through the rearview mirror. She stood there alone, slim and delicate, like a gust of wind could blow her away.

He watched as she looked down and touched her wedding ring. Even though he couldn’t see her face, he could imagine her expression—soft, gentle, and completely devoted.

She loved everything about Clive.
