Raven’s POV

I swallowed my fear as I walked towards the path I had heard the sound from, pushing the basket of half–filled blueberries behind my back as I moved cautiously through the thick shrubs.

The sound was faint just a whimper but it was enough to pull at something deep inside me. I stepped over a thick root, the leaves crunching under my feet, and as I moved closer, I saw her.

A girl. No, a young woman, probably in her late twenties, sitting with her back against a tree. Her long, dark hair clung to her sweat covered face, and her left leg was stretched out in front of her, trembling slightly. She clutched it with both hands, her knuckles white, and I could see the angry, red swelling around a pair of puncture wounds.

“A snake,” she gasped when she saw me. “I… I was bitten by a snake. I think it was poisonous.”

I dropped the basket and rushed to her side without thinking. Her breathing was rapid and shallow, and I could already see the skin around the bite turning an ominous shade of purple.

Panic threatened to seize me, but I shoved it aside. I had no herbs, no medical supplies, but I had to do something.

“It’s okay. Just hold still,” I told her firmly.

I bent down, grabbed her trembling hands, and gently pulled them away from the wound. Without hesitation, I leaned forward, pressed my lips to the injury, and bit down, sucking the venom out.

The metallic taste flooded my mouth, and I spat it out immediately. I did it again. And again. Until I was certain I had gotten out as much as I could.

Then I ripped a piece of fabric from the lower part of my dress and wrapped it tightly around her leg to stop the poison from spreading further.

“How are you feeling?” I asked softly, brushing her damp hair away from her face.

Her breathing slowed a little. “Better… thank you. I think it’s already working.”

I handed her some of the blueberries I had gathered. “Eat these. It’ll help with your strength. I have to go now; my Alpha will be furious if I don’t get back

soon.”

I picked up the basket and turned to leave, but her voice stopped me.

“Wait.”

I turned back. “Yes?”

“You helped me,” she said, her voice now steadier than before. “Now let me help you.”

My brows furrowed. “What are you talking about?”

“My name is Ava,” she said, her eyes meeting mine with startling clarity. “I’m a witch. And also a seer. I can help you break the spell that was cast on your Alpha… the one stopping him from seeing you as his mate.”

I froze.

My blood ran cold, then hot, then cold again. “What… did you say?”

“I saw it,” she said quietly. “The moment I touched your hand. I saw everything The pain. The betrayal. The mark of the mate bond that’s being buried beneath a curse. He doesn’t see you because someone doesn’t want him to. Someone very powerful.”

“How… how do you know all this?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper, almost afraid to believe her.
