Mated To The Alpha King (Raven and Ethan) novel Chapter 144

Chapter 144

Raven’s POV

I fell to his side as I held his bleeding arms. The warriors stood still, uncertain, watching us with wide eyes. His face was pale, and his fair clenched tightly as he tried to suppress the pain.

The scent of blood filled the air, and it made my stomach twist not from disgust, but from a strange sense of dread.

*Are you okay?I asked, my voice barely a whisper, shaking as I looked into his face.

My wolf growled, Are you stupid? Can’t you see he’s in pain? And for some reasonyou’re feeling it too.

I blinked in confusion. My chest ached this deep, dull ache that mirrored his, as though something inside me was tethered to him.

It didn’t make sense, It wasn’t supposed to be like this. I wasn’t supposed to feel anything for him anymore, not after everything.

But the way he wincedthe way his body trembled slightly as he tried to sit up

Someone help!I shouted, my voice sharp, catching the attention of the stunned warriors. Take him to the pack clinic, now!

I can walk,he muttered, his tone low and laced with pride. It’s just my arm. My legs are fine.

I shot him a glare, my hands cupping his cheek gently as I leaned in. No. Don’t be stubborn now.

Something in my voice made him still, and after a beat, he nodded once. The warriors quickly stepped forward and helped him up, his arm slung across one of their shoulders. I followed closely, watching every step and every twitch in his jaw.

The clinic was quiet when we arrived. A nurse rushed over, her eyes widening at the blood.

She guided him to a room and gestured for me to stay outside, but I didn’t move. I stood by the door, eyes glued to the inside, watching as the nurses cleaned his wound and stitched the tear along his arm with practiced hands.

The injury wasn’t fatal, thank the goddess, but it was deep. Probably from training, or something worse. The nurse eventually turned to me and gave a small nod. He’ll recover in a few days, she said softly, then left us alone in the room.

I stepped in quietly. He was sitting up now, arm bandaged, leaning against the headboard.

How are you feeling?I asked, my voice soft, hesitant.

He looked at me, eyes tired but clearer now. Fine. Justhungry.”

I blinked. Hungry?

He nodded, lips twitching slightly. Didn’t eat all day. Guess the injury reminded me.

Something twisted in my stomach again. I’ll be back,” I said quickly, turning before he could see the conflict in my face.

Luna Raven, one of them said, stepping forward, hands wiping nervously on her apron. Do you need anything? We can prepare it for you.

I shook my head quickly. No. I want to cook it myself.

The maids exchanged confused glances

I mean it,I said, more firmly this time. Thank you, but I want to do this alone.”

They hesitated for a moment before bowing slightly and stepping back, giving me space.

The kitchen felt foreign now, though I’d been here before. Not as Luna. Not while cooking for someone I swore I’d never care for again.

And yethere I was, sleeves rolled up, an apron tied around my waist, standing over the marble counter trying to figure out what the hell i was doing.

I moved on instinct, grabbing what I required some chicken breasts, garlic, onions, fresh tomatoes, and herbs. My hands moved with a steady rhythm as I chopped, stirred, and seasoned. I didn’t want to overthink it. I just wanted to cook.

First, I marinated the chicken in garlic, thyme, and a bit of olive oil, letting the aroma calm my nerves,

I sautéed onions until they turned golden, added diced tomatoes, a splash of broth, a pinch of salt, and crushed red pepper. The sauce simmered quietly, filling the kitchen with a warm, comforting smell.

I panseared the chicken, letting it brown evenly before combining it with the sauce to finish cooking slowly. The scent reminded me of home, or at least what home used to feel like before everything changed.

To go with it, I cooked some soft white rice with butter and bay leaves, letting the steam rise and fill the room with a mellow warmth. I even made a side of steamed vegetables with just a hint of lemon and black pepper, something simple yet hearty.

The maids watched from a distance, whispering behind my back, but I didn’t care.By the time I was done, I stared down at the tray with a warm plate of garlic herb chicken in tomato sauce, fluffy white rice, steamed vegetables, and a chilled glass of water on the side.

It lookeddecent. Good, even. Like something made with care.

I took the tray as I walked through the hallway towards the pack clinic when I got there

He was asleep.

The tray trembled slightly in my hand as I placed it on the small table by the bed. I turned to look at him, and I froze.

His face was peaceful in sleep, even more so than I remembered. The usual hard lines of stress and leadership were gone, replaced by something softer. Somethingalmost innocent.

My eyes traced the curve of his jaw, the slight parting of his lips, the way his lashes fanned against his cheek. Goddess. Why did he have to be this perfect? Why did he have to have this kind of effect on me?

I found myself sitting beside him, unable to pull away. My fingers reached forward before could stop them, brushing a lock of hair off his forehead. My wolf stirred within me, her voice a seductive whisper.

Kiss him.

No,I whispered. I can’t.

You want to.

I did. I really did.

I bit my lip, trying to pull my hand back, but instead, it moved to his cheek. My fingertips brushed his skin, and I swore I felt a jolt of warmth. shoot up my arm.

You’re already this close,” my wolf said. Just do it.”

I shouldn’t be here, I should be enjoying this. Watching him suffer. Notthis. Not stroking his face like I care.My voice broke, barely audible.
