Raven’s Pov

“And where are you coming from, mate?”

I froze at the sound of Alpha Ethan’s voice behind me. His tone wasn’t particularly harsh, but there was that familiar edge to it–an edge that

made my wolf stiffen. Slowly, I turned to face him, already preparing myself for whatever mood he was in.

“I went to drop something off,” I replied as casually as I could, hoping to avoid whatever interrogation was about to follow.

His sharp eyes scanned my face like he was searching for a crack in my words. “And why were you sneaking?” he asked, stepping closer.

“I wasn’t sneaking,” I shot back. “I was just heading back to my room.”

He studied me for a moment, then his lips curved into something that wasn’t quite a smile. “You shouldn’t be. I want you to see something.”

I raised a brow. “What exactly?”

“You’ll see,” he said, his voice low and almost teasing. Then he turned, walking ahead of me with that natural confidence that always made me want to either slap him or… well, something else entirely.

I hesitated for half a second, but curiosity got the better of me. My feet followed him before my mind could decide otherwise.

We walked in silence through the dimly lit paths of the pack house, then out into the open.

The night air was cool, brushing against my skin, carrying with it the faint scent of roses. I could see the warm glow of lights ahead, and when we stepped into the garden, I stopped in my tracks.

At the very center, under a canopy of tiny golden fairy lights, was a small round table set for two.

Two chairs faced each other, the silverware polished to perfection, plates waiting, candles flickering gently. The surrounding trees were dotted with lanterns, their soft light swaying with the breeze. It was… magical.

I tried to keep my face neutral, though my heart was doing that annoying thing where it beat too fast. “What’s the meaning of this?” I asked, pretending I didn’t care, even though my insides were jumping with a mixture of surprise and something dangerously close to happiness.

“Just wanted a relaxing dinner away from the pack members,” he said, walking over to the table. “And a chance to win your heart.”

I scoffed lightly, folding my arms. “I don’t know…”

“That’s okay,” he said softly. “You can take your time.”

Before I could respond, he pulled out a chair for me.

Such a gentleman, my wolf murmured inside me.

Don’t start, I told her sharply. I’m sure this is just a way to gain my forgiveness. The moment I tell him I’ve forgiven him, he’ll never do this again.

Still, I sat down, my eyes following him as he moved with practiced grace. He didn’t take his seat immediately–instead, he served the food himself. The aroma alone made my stomach tighten with hunger.

When I took the first bite, I almost hated how good it was.

He broke the silence after a few moments. “You know… I was surprised at how well you handled the sword during training”

I looked up at him. “My years were rough. I had to learn to protect myself.”

He nodded slowly, his gaze fixed on me. “I’m proud of you,” he said, and for a brief moment, the sincerity in his voice almost made me forget every reason I had to stay guarded.

Then he asked, “What do you want to be done with your sister?”

Olivia. My stomach clenched. I set my fork down. “Keep her locked up for now,” I said firmly. “Until I have a better idea.”

His expression didn’t change, but his voice was steady. “Okay. I’m fine with whatever you say.”

For a few minutes, we simply ate, the sound of the wind and the occasional chirping of crickets filling the silence. Then, somewhere nearby,

music began to play. Soft, slow… romantic.

Ethan stood, stepping around the table to me. Without asking, he reached for my hands and gently pulled me up.

I allowed him to lead me a few steps away from the table, and then we began to dance. His hand rested on my waist, the other clasping mine. My wolf purred at the closeness, and for once, I didn’t silence her.

It was… perfect.

His scent wrapped around me, the warmth of his body seeping into mine.

The fairy lights above painted his sharp features in gold. For a fleeting moment, I thought maybe just maybe I could let my walls down

completely.

But then

“My Alpha,” a guard’s voice broke the moment.

We both turned. The guard approached quickly, a white envelope in his hand. A neat red ribbon was tied around it. He handed it to me.

Ethan’s gaze flicked from the envelope to my face. “Who sent it?”

“I don’t know,” I said honestly.

He turned to the guard. “Who sent this?”

The guard shook his head. “I found it at the border. Whoever left it must have been scared to come any closer.”

Ethan’s brows lifted, but there was nothing amused in his expression, “So… you have a lover who sends you letters now?”

I blinked at him, stunned. “What are you talking about?”

“Why else would you have a white and red letter?” he demanded. “That’s what lovers send.”

I let out a sharp laugh, though there was no humor in it. “Stop being dramatic. It’s nothing.”

His jaw tightened. “I was so stupid thinking you had forgiven me. But clearly, you’ve been seeing another man…
