Raven’s Pov
I slammed the door in his face before he could say another word.

My heart was beating so hard I could hear it in my ears. I leaned on the wooden door, breathing fast like I had just run a long race. Alpha Ethan… How dare he come here and tell me not to leave? After everything he has done to me? After all the pain, shame, and heartbreak?
I slid down to the cold floor. My knees gave out as the weight of everything pressed on me again. Tears ran down my cheeks like water from a broken jar. I had held them back for so long, but now they poured out and I could not stop them.
“Why, Moon Goddess?” My voice broke. It was almost a whisper, but it sounded so loud in my quiet room. “What did I do wrong? What sin did I commit that you gave me a beast for a mate?”
I hid my face in my shaking hands and cried harder with every word. My chest hurt, my throat burned, and my head felt heavy. The rejection I wanted to tell him kept beating in my head like a drum. I hated this mate bond. I hated that it tied me to a man who only gave me pain.
“When I was a little girl,” I whispered, rocking myself slowly, “I dreamed about meeting my mate… I thought it was the most beautiful gift ever. Growing up without a mother, living with a cruel father and an evil stepsister–I held on to that dream. I believed that when I turned eighteen, life would finally be good.” I sniffled and let out a sad laugh. “But I was wrong. So wrong.”
The same mate who was supposed to protect me made my life a living hell.
Alpha Ethan. My curse. My punishment from the Moon Goddess. Sometimes I sit and wonder was this her plan? Did she want to see me suffer like this?
But now, it was over. It had to be.
I wiped my face hard with my palm, trying to stop the tears. My eyes were red and swollen, but I didn’t care. I had made up my mind. I was going to make him accept my rejection. Once he did, I could finally breathe. Finally live.
I stood up slowly. My legs felt weak, like they didn’t belong to me. I looked around my room and let out a long sigh. Everywhere in this pack house reminded me of pain. Every corner, every wall, every hallway–they all carried memories I wanted to erase.
I grabbed my hoodie and walked out. My feet moved on their own as I went to Beta Matthew’s room. He was the only one I could trust right now. The only one who cared, even when I didn’t deserve it.
When I reached his door, I stopped for a second before knocking softly.
“Come in,” his voice called from inside.
I pushed the door open and peeked in. Thank goodness, he was alone. He was sitting on the edge of his bed, scrolling through his phone. When he looked up and saw me, his brows pulled together in worry.
“Raven? Are you okay?” he asked, standing up right away.

I gave him a weak smile, but it didn’t reach my eyes. “Hi, Matthew… Is your mate around?”
He shook his head. “No. She stepped out a while ago. Why?”
“Good,” I said quietly, closing the door behind me. “I… I just need a favor. A last favor.”
His eyes softened, but I saw the confusion in them. “A last favor? What do you mean by that?”
I walked further into the room, my fingers twisting the hem of my hoodie. My heart was racing again, but this time it wasn’t from anger. It was from fear–fear of what I was about to do.
“Please, Matthew… Just listen to me,” I said, my voice shaking.
“Of course,” he said gently. “What do you need?”
I took a deep breath, feeling the air burn my lungs. This was it. “I want you to help me book a flight to California… in the next three days.”
His head snapped back, and his eyes grew wide in shock. For a long moment, he just stared at me like he couldn’t believe what I had said. “You’re leaving?” he finally asked, his voice low and full of disbelief.
I nodded slowly, holding back the tears. “Yes. It’s the best thing for me, Matthew. I can’t stay here anymore. I’m done with this… this stupid mate bond. I want to be free. I want a second chance at life. I can’t have that if I stay here.”
He looked like I had just stabbed him in the chest. His jaw tightened, and for a moment, I thought he was going to shout at
“Raven…” His voice was soft now, almost broken. “You know I don’t want you to leave. You know that, right?”
“I know,” I whispered, looking down at the floor because I couldn’t meet his eyes. “But this… this is the only way. I’ve tried everything, Matthew. I’ve tried to be strong, but every day in this pack feels like dying slowly.”
He took a step toward me, his hand reaching out to hold my arm gently. “Does this have to do with Ethan? Did he-”
“Please,” I cut him off quickly. “Don’t ask me anything. Just… just help me, okay? Please, Matthew.”
He stared at me for a long time, his jaw tight, his eyes shiny like he was holding back something–anger, pain, I didn’t
know. At last, he nodded slowly.
“If leaving will make you happy,” he said quietly, “then I’ll help you. Because you deserve that, Raven. You deserve happiness.”
My lips shook as I whispered, “Thank you I meant it with all my heart.
I turned to leave, but before I could step out, he spoke again.
“Three days,” he said softly. “Are you sure about this?”
“Yes,” I said without looking back. “Three days.”
I walked out of his room, my heart feeling strangely lighter. For the first time in a long time, I felt… full. Like I was finally
