Chapter 179
Alpha Ethan’s Pov
I stood there, watching as she walked out of the pack house.

The driver followed her, carrying the suitcase I had seen her pack earlier. The sound of the car door closing was loud in my ears. It felt like the last nail being hammered into a coffin, a coffin that held us inside it.
Raven.
Even now, saying her name in my head felt like a knife cutting deep in my chest. She was leaving. For good.
I didn’t know where she was going, and maybe I shouldn’t care. She had rejected me. Her voice, strong and steady when she said those words, still rang
in my ears:
“Taccept the rejection.”
Those four words broke something inside me, something I didn’t know could break. I thought I was strong. I thought I could face anything.
But this… this was worse than any battle wound I had ever taken.
I stood frozen at the door, my hand holding the frame like if I let go, I would fall apart. My wolf whimpered inside me, weak and broken. We had lost our
mate, and no wolf could ever truly heal from that. Not fully.
I clenched my fists and forced myself to step back inside. I had a pack to lead. I couldn’t stand here crying like a lost pup.
But even as I told myself that, the pain stayed. It sat heavy and cold in my chest, wrapping around me like chains.
Every breath hurt because it reminded me of the scent I was losing. Every heartbeat reminded me of the bond that once was there but now was broken.
I walked to my study, needing a drink, needing something to
step this pain, even for a short time. The glass of whiskey was in my hand, the golden drink glowing under the dim light of the chandelier. I stared at it without drinking.
Instead, I saw her face. Her smile, the real one that only carne when she wasn’t hiding behind walls. Her eyes, bright but full of pain.
I lifted the glass and took a slow sip. The bitter drink burned my throat, but it didn’t warm the coldness inside me.
I didn’t even hear the door open until a voice spoke behind me.
“Alpha
I turned, thinking it was Beta Matthew. But it was a guard, breathing hard like he had run all the way here.
“What is it?” I asked, my voice sharper than I meant.
His face was pale, eyes wide with fear. “Rogues, Alpha They’re attacking the eastern border. Our warriors there aren’t enough to stop them.”
My heart tightened. Rogues now? Of all times?
“How many?”
“Too many,” the guard said, still breathing hard. “If we don’t send help now, they’ll break through. And…” He swallowed hard. “They have weapons.”
Weapons. That made it worse.
I put the glass down so hard it cracked ory the table. “Call every warrior. Tell the female fighters to move the women and children to the safety tunnels. Now.”

“Yes, Alpha.” He turned to leave.
“Wait,” I said. “Tell Beta Matthew to meet me at the training ground. We leave in five.”
The guard nodded and ran out.

I grabbed my jacket, feeling my wolf move weakly inside me. He didn’t have the strength he used to, not after the rejection. I could feel the empty space where his power used to be strong.
But I didn’t care. I couldn’t sit here and let my pack fall apart. They needed me. Even if it killed me, I would fight.
I was halfway down the stairs when Matthew came in, already wearing battle clothes. His eyes looked at me, full of both strength and worry.
“You’ve really going?” he asked, standing in my way.
“Yes.”
Matthew shook his head. “Ethan, you just lost your mate. Your wolf is weak hell, you’re weak. If they hit you with wolfsbane…” He stopped, his jaw tight. “You could lose your wolf forever.”
I looked into his eyes, my voice firm. “I don’t care.”
“Ethan”
“I’ve already lost a mate, Matthew. I can’t lose a pack too.” My tone left no room for argument.
Something flickered in his eyes, pain maybe, but he nodded. “Then I’m with you.“”
We didn’t waste another second. We ran toward the eastern border, the forest flying past us in green and brown. I could already hear the sounds of battle: snarls, growls, and gunfire.
When we reached the trees, chaos was everywhere. Warriors fought in wolf form, blood staining the ground. Rogues, dozens of them, attacked with wild rage. Some carried blades, and others had guns shining under the moonlight.
I didn’t wait. I shifted, pain tearing through me as bones cracked and fur came out. My wolf staggered for a second before standing, weaker than ever but still ready.
We charged into the fight.
The first rogue didn’t see me coming. I slammed into him, teeth sinking into his neck. He dropped dead, and I turned just in time to block another. Every move took twice the strength it should have. Every lunge, every claw swipe, felt like carrying a mountain.
But I kept going. I couldn’t stop. Not now.
I tore through two more rogues before something hit me: a smell, faint but known. My wolf froze, shock flashing like lightning.
Then I saw him.
The rogue. The one who had shot me that night. The one Raven had saved me from when she took the bullet meant for me.
Memories hit me hard: Raven’s scream, her body falling, blood on her clothes, me holding her and begging her not to die.
And now… she was gone. Not dead, but gone from my life. Because of me. Because I broke her.
I shook my head, pushing the thoughts away. couldn’t think of that now. I jumped at the rogue with a roar, throwing him to the ground. He growled, clawing at me, and we rolled in the dirt. His teeth cut my shoulder, pain burning like fire, but I didn’t stop.
“Thought you killed me, didn’t you?” I growled through the bond, my voice more a snarl than words.

He spat blood, grinning. “Should’ve.”

I raised my paw to strike him, but another rogue hit me from the side. Hell, barely standing back up as Matthew jumped in and broke the rogue’s neck,
“You good?” he shouted.
“Fine.” I lied. My wolf was shaking now, weaker with every minute. I could feel it–the slow drain, the fading strength. But I wouldn’t stop.
We fought until the last rogue fell. Or so I thought.
I was catching my breath, blood dripping from my fur, when I saw something move at the edge of the woods.
Another rogue walked out. Alone. His eyes locked on me, cold and full of hate.
He had a gun.
He pointed it at me.
