Chapter 180
Chapter 180
Alpha Ethan’s Pov
I woke up in my room, the faint hum of machines filling my ears.
My eyelids felt heavy, like they’d been glued shut for days.
When i finally forced them open, a blinding white light burned my vision, making me squint.
Slowly, shapes came into focus: white walls, a beeping monitor, and the sterile smell of herbs mixed with blood and antiseptic.
My heart skipped. Hospital.
Ishifted slightly, only to feel a tug. My gaze dropped, and my stomach twisted.
60%
Thin, transparent tubes so many of them ran from my arms to machines. There was also a thick bandage around my torso. And… something felt wrong with my legs.
“What the hell… why are there so many strings on me?” My voice came out hoarse, like gravel scraping against steel.
Matthew sat in the corner, on the small sofa by the window, staring at the floor.
He looked like a ghost his usually neat hair was disheveled, his eyes bloodshot, and his clothes wrinkled like he hadn’t changed for days.
“Matthew.” I tried again, louder this time. “What happened? Why am I hooked to all these?”
He didn’t answer. He didn’t even look at me.
A chill ran through me. Something was very wrong.
“Matthew!” I barked, my alpha tone breaking through the suffocating silence. His head jerked up instantly, and for a split second, I saw something in his eyes fear, guilt, helplessness.
Things I had never seen on Beta Matthew’s face before.
“Alpha…” His voice cracked, and he quickly looked away again. “The healers will explain.”
“The healers will explain?” I scoffed, my blood boiling. “What the fuck does that mean? You’re my Beta! Talk to me, Matthew!”
Before he could respond, the door opened. Two healers walked in one older woman with a stern face and a younger man who trailed behind her carrying
a tray of herbs.
The older healer approached, bowing her head respectfully.
“You’re awake,” she said softly, as if that was supposed to comfort me.
I glared at her. “No shit Now tell me what happened. Where are we with the rogues? Where is everyone? And why do I feel like half my body is dead?!”
Matthew flinched, but the healer didn’t break eye fontact. She drew a deep breath, like she was preparing for something heavy.
“You were attacked, Alpha,” she began slowly. “Shot with a wolfsbane bullet. It… it did severe damage.”
“I know I was shot!” I snapped, my patience thinning. “But that doesn’t explain why I can’t feel” I stopped abruptly. My heart started pounding. My throat went dry.
Why couldn’t I feel my left leg?
I tried to move it under the blanket. Nothing. No twitch. No shift. Nothing. Panic clawed up my chest like a feral beast.
“Why… why can’t I feel my left leg?” My voice dropped to a whisper, but the room felt like it was spinning.
The healer’s eyes softened with pity, something I didn’t want to see.
“Answer me!” I roared.
She exhaled sharply, her shoulders sinking. “Alpha… the wolfsbane spread too far before we got to you. It didn’t just weaken you… it severed your connection to your wolf. And the poison damaged your spinal link. You’ve… you’ve lost your wolf.” Her voice cracked at the end, but she kept going. “And your ability to walk.”
The words hit me like a thunderclap. For a second, the room blurred. My ears rang. My heartbeat drowned out everything else.
“What…?” My voice broke. “No. No, that’s not,” I shook my head violently. “That’s not possible! I’m an alpha! I’m,” my voice choked on the last word.
She stepped closer, her face grave. “There is… one hope. If you find your second–chance mate and mark her, you can get your wolf back. But… we don’t know if your legs will ever work again.”
Silence fell. A silence so heavy it could crush bones.
“No…” I whispered, shaking my head as tears burned the back of my eyes. “No, that can’t be. It’s a lie. It’s a fucking lie!”
I closed my eyes, reaching inward. Darius. My wolf. My other half. My strength.
Darius? Can you hear me?
Nothing.
I tried again, louder this time. DARIUS! Answer me, damn it!
But there was only silence. Empty. Hollow. Like calling into a void that didn’t exist.
It felt like a blade slicing through my soul.
My hands gripped the sheets so hard the veins popped in my arms. My chest heaved. My breath came out in ragged gasps.
“Leave,” I said, my voice deadly calm.
The healer frowned. “Alpha, we still need to”
“LEAVE!” Troared, my voice thundering through the room like a storm. The machines beeped wildly, reacting to my spike in heart rate.
Both healers flinched, exchanging worried glances, but they obeyed, shuffling out quickly. Matthew hesitated by the door, his face etched with concern.
“Alpha…” he started softly.
“OUT.” I snarled without looking at him.
He swallowed hard, gave a stiff nod, and left.
The door clicked shut. Silence wrapped around me like a coffin.
And then… I broke.
For the first time in years, I cried. Not the silent, dignified tears of a proud Alpha but gut–wrenching sobs that tore through my chest like knives. My hands shook violently as I gripped the sheets, my knuckles turning white.
I lost everything.
My mate.
My wolf.
