Reven’s Pov

:

I sighed in relief the moment we drove out of the mall.

My chest still felt heavy, my heart racing from the shock of what I had just seen, or rather, who I had just seen.

Alpha Ethan. I could never mistake that broad frame, the way his shoulders squared, or the piercing eyes that once haunted me in both dreams and nightmares.

Even if he had been standing with his back to me, my body knew. My wolf knew.

And when he turned, even for that fleeting second, I had to look away before he could catch the recognition in my eyes.

What was that?Derick asked the moment we were a few blocks away, his brows furrowed as he studied me. His voice was firm, but beneath it was worry.

I tried to steady my breathing, pressing my hand lightly against my stomach where my babies rested, safe and growing inside me. I I don’t know. I just felt dizzy. My legs couldn’t hold me anymore,” I lied, my gaze shifting to the window.

Derick’s jaw tightened. You should have told me earlier instead of making me run out like some criminal with you rushing to the car. Do you have any idea what that looked like?

His voice carried more frustration than anger, but it still made my chest tighten.

He had done so much for me, sheltered me, protected me, and even spoiled me at times when I thought I didn’t deserve it.

And here I was, dragging him into a scene that made him look foolish in public.

I’m sorry,I whispered, my voice low, filled with guilt.

Silence followed. The rest of the drive back to the pack house was quiet, heavy with unspoken words. I didn’t dare look at him again, afraid of the disappointment I might find in his eyes.

Instead, I focused on the passing streets, the blur of trees and buildings, and the faint hum of the engine all to distract myself from the whirlwind of emotions threatening to consume me.

By the time we arrived at the pack house, the tension had sunk deep into my bones. Derick carried the bags they had bought earlier, while I trailed behind him quietly.

He didn’t say a word as he helped me up the stairs, guided me into my room, and set the bags neatly by the corner. I thought he would leave right after, but just as he turned to walk away, my lips betrayed me.

Derickwait.”

He stopped. Slowly, he turned back, and there we were, standing just inches apart. The silence stretched

between us like a string pulled taut, threatening to snap at any moment.

My heart beat wildly in my chest as I searched his face, trying to understand what he was feeling.

Are you still mad at me?I asked, my voice soft, almost breaking. My hands found their way to his shoulders without me realizing, resting there gently.

He didn’t answer immediately, his expression unreadable. That silence scared me more than any harsh words could.

I’m sorry,I whispered again, this time letting my fingers trail lightly across his lips. His lips were warm, soft, and familiar in a way that brought me comfort. My gaze locked on his, searching for forgiveness, for something to anchor me.

Derick’s hand came up, catching mine, holding it firmly. Then his other hand slid around my waist, pulling me closer until I could feel the heat of his body against mine.

His breath brushed my face as he finally spoke, his voice deep and low.

I’m not mad, Raven. Justnot happy about what you-

Before he could finish, my lips pressed against his.

The surprise flickered in his eyes for a moment, but he didn’t pull away. Instead, he kissed me back. Not hungrily, not with desperation, but with a passion that made my knees weak.

My eyes fluttered shut as a low moan escaped me, the kiss deepening, warming me in places I thought had gone cold forever. For a moment, it felt safe. For a moment, I let myself imagine that this was enough, that I could build a future with him and my babies without fear.

But thenAlpha Ethan’s face flashed across my mind. His shadow loomed behind my eyelids, his voice echoed in my head. What was he doing at that mall? Did he come looking for me? Had he already found our? My heart pounded, confusion swirling between desire and fear.

Derick’s hands moved, finding the zipper of my dress, pulling it slowly down. Reality crashed back in. My eyes snapped open, and I grabbed his hands quickly.

No, Derick,” I breathed, my voice shaky but firm.

His eyes searched mine, puzzled, but when he saw the fear in them, he stopped. Okay,he said softly, releasing me. He took a step back, his expression unreadable again.

I turned away, walking to the bed and sitting heavily on the edge. My hands trembled as I ran them over my belly, grounding myself in the tiny heartbeats that kept me going. Derick lingered a moment longer, watching me, but when I didn’t say anything else, he finally left the room, the door closing softly behind him.

The silence that followed was deafening. I let out a long sigh, frustration escaping my lips as I touched my mouth, still tingling from the kiss. I didn’t know what to feelguilt, relief, fear, or longing. Maybe all of them
