I sighed in relief the moment we drove out of the mall.

Alpha Ethan. I could never mistake that broad frame, the way his shoulders squared, or the piercing eyes that once haunted me in both dreams and nightmares.

Even if he had been standing with his back to me, my body knew. My wolf knew.

And when he turned, even for that fleeting second, I had to look away before he could catch the recognition in my eyes.

“What was that?” Derick asked the moment we were a few blocks away, his brows furrowed as he studied me. His voice was firm, but beneath it was worry.

I tried to steady my breathing, pressing my hand lightly against my stomach where my babies rested, safe and growing inside me. “I I don’t know. I just felt dizzy. My legs couldn’t hold me anymore,” I lied, my gaze shifting to the window.

Derick’s jaw tightened. “You should have told me earlier instead of making me run out like some criminal with you rushing to the car. Do you have any idea what that looked like?”

His voice carried more frustration than anger, but it still made my chest tighten.

He had done so much for me, sheltered me, protected me, and even spoiled me at times when I thought I didn’t deserve it.

And here I was, dragging him into a scene that made him look foolish in public.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice low, filled with guilt.

Silence followed. The rest of the drive back to the pack house was quiet, heavy with unspoken words. I didn’t dare look at him again, afraid of the disappointment I might find in his eyes.

Derick’s hand came up, catching mine, holding it firmly. Then his other hand slid around my waist, pulling me closer until I could feel the heat of his body against mine.
