“Good morning, babe,” I heard Derick’s voice in my sleep, warm and gentle, as his hand rubbed softly.

stomach
His touch was tender, protective, like he was afraid to press too hard on the growing life inside me.
I groaned a little as I slowly opened my eyes. Sunlight was streaming in through the curtains, painting the room in a soft golden glow.
He was sitting at the edge of the bed, his face glowing with happiness as he kept his palm pressed over my belly.
“Good morning,” I whispered back, my lips curving into a small smile even though my body still felt heavy with sleep. I shifted to sit up fully, turning to face him.
Derick’s eyes softened as he looked at me. “I just wanted to check how my princess was doing.” His voice carried that mix of playfulness and sincerity that always made me blush.
“Stop,” I muttered, heat rushing to my cheeks. I lowered my gaze, but he only chuckled.
“I’m not stopping, because it’s the truth,” he replied, tilting his head and giving me that lopsided smile that always melted my defenses.
I reached up to rub my eyes, yawning. “So, what are your plans for today?” he asked, brushing a strand of hair from my face.
“Nothing,” I said honestly, leaning back on the pillows. “I just want to lie down and munch on some popcorn.”
Derick laughed, shaking his head. “That plan isn’t going to work.
First, you’re going to the hospital to get checked. Then we’ll go shopping for the babies. They’ll be here soon, and I want everything in place for them.”
I blinked at him, my chest tightening with warmth. He sounded so sure, so ready, like he had been preparing for this moment all his life.
“You’re just the best,” I murmured, leaning forward to press a quick kiss to his cheek before slipping out of bed.
The floor felt cool beneath my feet as I padded into the bathroom. I washed my face, brushed my teeth, and took a quick bath.
By the time I stepped out, the steam following me, I felt refreshed. I got dressed in a soft maternity gown, one that flowed easily over my belly.
When I returned to the hallway, Derick was already waiting outside, tall and composed, giving instructions to
the driver.

The maids greeted me warmly as I passed, their smiles making me feel a little more at home in this pack
house.
“Ready?” Derick asked as he opened the door for me.
I nodded. “Ready.”
The ride to the hospital didn’t take long. With Derick’s influence, we didn’t have to wait at all. We were ushered in immediately, and the doctor greeted us kindly.
The cold gel on my stomach made me flinch, but when the monitor picked up the strong, steady rhythm of the babies‘ heartbeat, I felt tears prick my eyes.
“They’re healthy,” the doctor assured me with a smile. “Strong and growing well. You should just get ready in less than three months now, and you’ll meet them.”
Three months. The words echoed in my mind. So close, and yet it felt like an eternity. I nodded, thanking the doctor softly.
Back in the car, I leaned against Derick, resting my head on his chest. His arm wrapped around me, his hand absently stroking my hair. That small motion calmed me, made me feel safe.
After a brief ride, we pulled up at the mall. My chest tightened as I recognized the place; it was the same one we had come to before.
Memories of the incident from last time flashed through my mind, making my stomach churn.
“Can’t we go somewhere else?” I asked softly as we got out.
Derick looked at me, concern flickering in his eyes. “I know how you feel because of what happened last time. But I promise, I’ve fixed everything. Nothing will happen this time.”
I hesitated but finally nodded, trusting him. He offered me his arm, and we walked in together, guarded discreetly by one of his men.
Inside, we went straight to the children’s section. My mood lifted almost instantly as I picked up tiny clothes soft onesies, miniature shoes, and little hats that looked too small to be real.
Derick helped me choose cribs, blankets, and other essentials. He was so involved, so careful, as if every detail mattered.
And maybe it did. These were our babies, our future.
By the time we finished, I was tired but strangely happy. As we left the section, I tugged on Derick’s sleeve. “I’m craving ice cream.”
He laughed. “Of course you are.”
We headed toward the ice cream stand, the cool scent of vanilla and chocolate filling the air. While I sat, Derick went to the counter to pay. I looked around absently, my eyes scanning the crowded space.
