Mated To The Alpha King (Raven and Ethan) novel Chapter 222

Chapter 222

Alpha Ethan’s Pov

We arrived at the hospital as I got down and instructed the driver to take her in. I wheeled myself from behind, my chest tightening with every scream of Ava’s that echoed down the hallway.

Her voice was sharp, ragged, filled with pain that cut deeper than any blade could.

My heart pounded so hard I thought it might burst out of my chest.

I had seen warriors fall in battle, had lost brothers to death, but nothingnothing compared to the fear of losing her.

When we got inside, the nurses on duty rushed out with a stretcher. Their shoes squeaked against the polished floor, their faces masks of urgency.

They lifted Ava carefully from the guard’s arms and laid her down. She was writhing, clutching her abdomen, sweat soaking her hairline.

Luna, hold on,one of the nurses whispered, though I doubted she could even hear her. Ava’s eyes fluttered shut, and for a moment, I thought she was gone.

Ava!I called, my voice hoarse, reaching out as the stretcher was pushed down the corridor.

Her hand lifted weakly, searching, and I caught it, gripping tight as if my strength could flow into her. Her fingers trembled against mine. She looked at me briefly, her eyes glossy with unshed tears, and then her head fell back against the pillow as the nurses pushed her toward the emergency room.

Alpha, you must wait outside, the doctor in charge told me firmly as the doors swung open.

No,” I growled, the wolf inside me resisting, clawing at my chest, demanding to be by her side. I want to go in. She’s my wife.”

The doctor, his forehead already lined with stress, shook his head. We cannot have distractions inside. Please, Alpha, stay here. We will do everything we can.”

My hands tightened on the armrests of my wheelchair, nails digging into the wood, but I nodded stiffly. Nothing should happen to her. Do you understand me? Nothing.”

The doctor’s eyes softened, and he gave a small nod. We’ll try our best. Then the door shut, sealing me out.

And so, I waited.

The hallway felt endless, suffocating. I could still hear muffled screams from inside the emergency room, each one stabbing into me like a dagger. My wolf paced inside me, restless, furious that we were being kept

away.

I clenched my jaw, whispering silent prayers I didn’t even know I still had in me. I had never been a man who prayed, but now I found myself bargaining with the Moon Goddess, begging, demanding, pleading anything, just to spare her life.

Minutes stretched into hours. Every time the screams grew louder, I winced, my hands trembling. Sweat beaded on my forehead even though the hallway was cold.

Nurses rushed in and out, their expressions unreadable, and not one of them dared to meet my eyes. That silence was worse than any word they could have spoken.

Finally, after what felt like a lifetime, the doctor pushed through the door.

His coat was wrinkled, his forehead glistening with sweat. He removed his mask and sighed, his eyes heavy with something I didn’t want to hear.

I wheeled forward, my voice breaking as I demanded, How is she? How’s Ava?

The doctor hesitated, and that hesitation alone nearly killed me. Alphahe began softly, the labor is complicated. We don’t think both the mother and the baby can make it alive.”

The world tilted. My breath caught, my chest tightening painfully. What?My voice rose, sharp, filled with a fear I couldn’t hide. Nono, no, you don’t get to say that! You save her. Do you hear me? Save my wife. I don’t care about anything else. If one life must be spared, let it be hers. We can have other children, but I can never have another her!

The doctor shifted uncomfortably, his voice quiet. I understand, Alpha, but it’s not that simple. We must ask her what she wants.

For a moment, I froze. Ask her? How could they ask her to choose in such a moment? How could they lay such a burden on her shoulders when she was already in unbearable pain?

But I couldn’t waste time arguing. Take me to her.”

The doctor nodded, leading the way. I wheeled myself into the room, and the sight that greeted me broke me apart.

Ava lay on the bed, her body arched in pain, her hands gripping the sheets so hard her knuckles were white. Sweat poured down her temples as strands of hair clung to her face. Her lips were cracked from all the screaming, and her voice came out raw, pleading with every contraction that racked her body.

Ethanshe whimpered as her eyes met mine.

I moved to her side instantly, grabbing her hand and pressing it against my chest. I’m here. I’m right here, my love. Hold on. Please, just hold on. It will soon be over. You’ll be fine.”

Her eyes, filled with unshed tears, searched mine. She shook her head weakly. II don’t think I can make it out alive.
