Chapter 239
Chapter 239
Reven’s Pov
It’s been a week now since the kids and I came back to California, and though I tried to convince myself it would be easy this time, it hasn’t exactly been a bed of roses.

Derick’s parents were still cold toward me, like they were merely tolerating my existence under their roof. I’d gotten used to their judging stares at breakfast and the forced smiles at dinner. It hurt, but I had to be strong, not just for myself but for my children.
Every morning, I reminded myself that Derick loved me and that was what mattered.
Love wasn’t about winning everyone’s approval it was about standing firm through the storms that tried to tear you apart. And for me, Derick and the kids were my strength.
After making sure the kids were settled with their breakfast, I decided today would be different. I needed to move, to train, to feel like myself again.
I had spent too long hiding behind domestic routines, too long suppressing the fighter in me.
The warm water from the shower ran down my skin, washing away the fatigue and lingering stress. I closed my eyes, letting the steam fog up the mirror as I thought about how much my life had changed.
From being a maid in Alpha Ethan’s pack to standing here, in a mansion in California, with two kids who meant the world to me, it was surreal.
When I was done, I wrapped a towel around myself and walked to the closet.
My fingers brushed over a few elegant dresses before stopping at a set of black training clothes. I smiled softly. It’s been a while, I thought.
After changing, I tied my hair into a ponytail, grabbed my sneakers, and slipped them on. I glanced at the clock; it was still early. Perfect.
The kids‘ laughter echoed down the hall, and it made me smile as I walked toward their room. When I opened the door, they were sitting cross–legged on the bed, their little faces lit by the glow of their tablets.
“Hey, my loves,” I said softly.
They looked up immediately, their eyes bright. “Mommy!” Lyra squealed.
I leaned down, kissing both of them on the forehead. “I’m going for training with Daddy,” I told them, brushing a strand of hair from Lyra’sface. “You two behave, okay?”
“We will, Lucian said, his tone a mix of maturity and sweetness. He was only five, but he spoke like he was ten sometimes.
I laughed softly, giving them both another kiss. “I’ll see you soon.”

Leaving their room, I made my way downstairs. The house was quiet, except for the distant hum of the morning breeze through the open balcony doors. I went straight to the kitchen, where a few maids were already at work.
“Good morning, ma’am,” they greeted warmly.
“Good morning,” I replied with a small smile. “Could I get two bottles of cold water, please?”
“Of course.” One of them quickly fetched them from the refrigerator and handed them to me.
“Thank you,” I said, nodding politely before leaving the kitchen. The maids smiled at me as I left, and I could tell they were beginning to warm up to me, unlike the Alpha’s parents.
The training ground was at the far end of the property, a wide, open space surrounded by trimmed hedges and shaded by tall oak trees. As I approached, I saw Derick already there, wearing a sleeveless black shirt that clung to his chest, showing off every hard–earned muscle.
He turned the moment he sensed me. “Kate,” he said, smiling–he loved calling me that.
“Sorry,” I said, walking closer. “I went to check on the kids and grabbed us some water.”
He smiled warmly, his dimples showing. “You know I can’t be mad at you.”
I chuckled, setting the bottles on the small wooden bench nearby. “You should try sometimes. It might make training feel more serious.”
He laughed softly, shaking his head. “Let’s start then, tough lady.”
We began with stretches, then light sparring. Derick was being gentle too gentle. His movements were slow, deliberate, almost like he was afraid of hurting me.
“Derick,” I said, catching his wrist as he tried a lazy swing. “You’re going too easy on me.”
He raised a brow. “I don’t want you getting hurt.”
“I can handle myself.” My tone was firm. “I know the basics, remember? I just haven’t trained in a while.”
He gave me a playful smirk. “Alright, then. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
And with that, he came at me faster this time, but still, I was quicker. My instincts kicked in, my body remembering every move, every strike, every dodge. Training with him felt natural, even fun. He was skilled, but I’d been in real fights before.
When we moved to the sword section, a wave of nostalgia hit me hard.
The cold steel, the stance, the rush of power it all brought back memories I didn’t want to remember. My mind flashed back to the day I fought Alpha Ethan, the shock on his face when I disarmed him. He hadn’t expected me to win. No one did.
“Raven,” Derick’s voice cut through my thoughts sharply. “Stay with me.”

1 blinked and shook my head, gripping the sword tighter. “Right Sorry”
館
We began sparring again, the clang of metal against metal echoing across the field. fle was good, really good. but so was 1
Every time our blades met. sparks flew, literally and figuratively.
After half an hour of intense fighting. I finally disarmed him.
His sword clattered to the ground, and he stared at me, stunned.
I couldn’t help the small blush that crept up my cheeks. “Told you not to go easy,” I said with a teasing smile.
He chuckled breathlessly, still on one knee. “I can’t believe I just lost to you.”
“Believe it,” I said, extending my hand to help him up. He took it, his fingers lingering a second too long before letting go.
We both sank down onto the grass, panting lightly. The morning sun was warm against my skin, and a soft breeze brushed through my hair.
Derick reached for one of the bottles, took a long sip, and handed it to me. “Where did you learn those moves?” he asked, curiosity and admiration mingling in his voice.
I hesitated for a second before answering. “Just… from training back home. I used to love practicing. Guess it stayed with me.”
He studied me for a moment, his gaze deep. “You’re holding back something.”
I smiled faintly. “Maybe.”
