I went back into the healer’s house and informed Elisa that I was leaving. She looked up at me with tired eyes, her expression unreadable. I would rather

not hear whatever judgment she had in her mind, so I simply nodded at her and turned away. Before walking out, I gave Raven one last glance. She still hadn’t moved–her pale face, her chest barely rising. I swallowed hard. Then, without another word, I left the room, my boots thudding heavily against

the wooden floor.

Outside, I walked over to where my car was parked. The engine started with a deep roar, and I took one final look at the healer’s home before pulling away, the tires crunching over gravel. The entire drive back to the pack house was quiet, heavy. My hands gripped the wheel tighter than necessary. No music. No distractions. Just the memory of Raven lying there, drenched in her own blood, gnawed at my mind like a curse I couldn’t shake off.

I parked in the driveway and headed inside, nodding briefly at the guards who stood by the entrance. My steps echoed as I made my way through the quiet corridors. I passed a few pack members, but I didn’t acknowledge anyone. I wasn’t in the mood to deal with their stares or whispers.

When I reached my room, I stripped off my bloodstained shirt and let it fall to the floor. The scent of iron still clung to me, thick and revolting. I turned on the shower, letting the water heat up before stepping under the stream. The water cascaded over my skin, washing away the grime–but not the guilt.

I leaned against the cold tiles, letting my head rest against them as I exhaled sharply. Why did she have to go that far? She could’ve just accepted her punishment like anyone else. But no–she had to fight. Had to scream. Had to make me feel something I didn’t want to feel.

After what felt like forever, I finally stepped out and dried myself off. I dressed slowly, intending to go see Olivia. I needed something–anything–to distract me from the storm building in my chest.

But just as I was buttoning my shirt, the door to my room slammed open.

“What the hell?” I growled, snapping my head up.

Beta Matthew stormed in, his face red with fury. “What the actual fuck, Ethan?”

I narrowed my eyes. “Matthew, what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be off running errands or whatever you claim to do when you vanish?”

“I just got back,” he snapped. “And the first thing I hear is what happened to Raven. What the hell is wrong with you?”

I clenched my jaw. “That’s none of your business.”

“The hell it’s not!” Matthew advanced toward me. “You had three grown guards to have there way with her? Are you even hearing yourself? That girl is innocent!”

“She isn’t!” I barked. “She pushed Olivia–my mate–into a coma! She deserves to be punished”

“She’s still a girl! She’s not some rogue or traitor–you treated her like trash! What happened to your damn humanity, Ethan?”

“Don’t lecture me, Matthew.” I turned away, reaching for my watch on the dresser. “You weren’t here. You didn’t see what she did. I don’t care how it looks. I punished her for what she did. It’s not my fault she couldn’t handle the consequences.”

Matthew’s eyes widened with disbelief. “You’re unbelievable. You’re standing here, talking like this, after she stabbed herself to escape what you ordered.”

“I didn’t tell her to kill herself,” I said coldly. “She made that choice.”

Matthew shook his head, his voice breaking. “You seriously don’t get it, do you? You have a sister, Ethan, Just imagine–imagine someone giving the order for three guards to violate her. Would you still talk like this? Would you still say it was justified?”

I turned sharply, my eyes flashing: “Don’t you dare compare her to my sister.

I stepped forward, my voice low. “I said stop.”

“No,” he hissed. “I won’t stop, not this time. You’re going to wake up one day and realize that when you finally understand Raven’s worth, when you finally want her by your side–it’ll be too late. She won’t be here anymore.”
