Chapter 81

Chapter 81

Raven’s P

I stepped out through the window, careful not to make a sound. The moonlight bathed the courtyard in a silvery glow, casting soft shadow about the walls. My heart pounded in my chest, but trefined to let fear hold me back. Freedom was calling, and I was done being a prisoner in my own Me.

Hooked around, expecting to see a guard lurking, but to my relief, there was no one stationed by the gates tonight Lucky me. Without hesitation, tiptoed past the garden, my feet crunching sehtly against the gravel palli. The chill in the air kissed my skin, but it only made the moment feet montreal, t wasn’t dreaming. I was doing it was escaping, if only for a little while

As soon as I stepped beyond the gates, I inhaled deeply. The fresh, unfiltered air of the woods swept over me, invigorating me from the inside out. I closed my eyes and let the wind brush against my face. A small smile curved my lips. So this is what freedom feels like, I muttered to myself. My volor was barely above a whisper, but the sincerity in it was deafening

I followed the shortcut that led into the thick woods. The trees stretched high above me like ancient guardians, their leuses rusting gently as if greeting me back. It had been months since I’d been heremonths since i had last let my wolf out. She stirred inside me now, growing softly with anticipation.

It’s time. Hold her.

And with that, I shited.

Bones cracked and reformed, fur sprouted along my skin, and my senses heightened instantly. My wolf form emerged with a powerful grace, her ster fur glistening under the moonlight. She howlednot in sorrow or anger, but in absolute joy. A howl that echoed across the trees, announcing her presence to the world.

Then we ran

Faster than the wind, faster than fear itself. We darted between trees, leapt over fallen logs, chased the wind through the thick underbrush. My paws pounded against the earth, the rhythm steady and wild. My wolf yipped and howled, and I could feel her joy merging with mine. She hadn’t felt this. in so long. Neither had I.

We raced through the woods like we belonged therefree, untamed, alive. We hunted nothing, chased no one. We simply existed, and that was enough. It was more than enough.

After what felt like hours, fatigue began to creep into my limbs. My breathing grew heavy. My paws slowed. We’d pushed ourselves to the limit, but it was worth it. My wolf gave one last howl, softer this time, as we turned to head back.

That was when I caught the scent.

My body went rigid. It was faint but distinctrough, unwashed, wild. My stomach dropped.

Rogues

I knew that smell too well. I’d lived among rogues before, survived in their midst. I could tell from the layers in the scent that it wasn’t just one. There were several. Maybe threemaybe more.

Panic surged through me. I turned, trying to retrace my steps and take a longer route back to the pack, but before I could even move, massive well blocked my path.

  • His eyes

He stepped from the shadows like he belonged there. Towering and dark, his fur was a dull gray mixed with patches of brown, matted in places. H were wild, yellow, and cold. My breath caught

He was huge.

My legs trembled slightlynot out of weakness, but out of instinct. He was a true rogue Alpha, and he was dangerous. Very dangerous

He came closer, growling low in his throat as he began to sniff the air around me. He was trying to catch my scent, to confirm who or whatI was.

I didn’t wait.

launched forward and bit him hard on the shoulder.

His howl ripped through the al like thunder.

The other two came

The sound. One was smaller, quicker. The other, a brute with one mishing eye and thick scars across his chest,

I didn’t hesitate. I shifted back to humsan long enough to call on my instincts and shifted again instantly, fighting with everything thad.

Teeth snapped. Claws tore. Blood splattered against the tree trunks as we battled beneath the moonlight.

I took the first one down quickly, tearing through his neck with a sharp twist. He gurgled, twitched, and grill.

The second one was faster, but reckless. Fused that against him, dodging his attack and sinking my teeth into his side, then ramming him against a tree. He slumped after two more strikes.

But the firstthe massive one was still standing.

He hadn’t attacked yet, just observed. Now he came for me.

And he was strong

I fought, and I fought hard. Our bodies collided with brutal force. He pinned me more than once, and I barely managed to escape. I bit into his foreleg, trying to weaken him, but he slammed me against the dirt and snapped at my throat Pain seared through my side as his claws raked across me.

My strength was fading

  1. ps. My limbs ached. But I refused to give up.

My breath came in ragged gasps.
