Mending a Broken Love (Roxanne and Sebastian) novel Chapter 157

At the dinner table, Roxanne and Sebastian sat across from each other, eating quietly. Roxanne didn't even raise her eyebrows. She was completely focused on her meal.

Sebastian's gaze, however, never left her.

After a long pause, he finally said in a dry voice, "I made a lot of mistakes in the past, and I'll change."

Roxanne's hand trembled as she lifted her bowl of chowder. The hot liquid spilled over, scalding her hand. She hurriedly grabbed a wet napkin to wipe it up. She didn't even feel the burn on her hand as her mind was too occupied with what he had just said. She looked up at him in disbelief.

His brows were still cold and distant, his posture still noble and commanding. The face was still the same. Sebastian was still Sebastian—proud and arrogant. But what he had just said left her stunned.

She quickly waved her hand. "No, no, no. You were fine before. Please don't change. Seriously."

Did he think he was acting in some sort of horror movie?

Did he say that he had done something wrong and wanted to change?

Sebastian watched her panic-stricken reaction, and his hand tightened around the spoon. His eyes clouded over with a shadow of despair. He took a deep breath, trying to speak again in a rough and strained voice, "Rox, I'm sorry. I've ignored your feelings in the past."

She immediately pressed her hand to her chest, her delicate face paling in disbelief. She thought she had misheard. Had she really just heard him apologize? It was more shocking than seeing Miles alive!

Sebastian's breath caught, and his fist was clenched so tightly that his hand trembled slightly from the effort of holding back his anger. Only God knew that apologizing and promising to change had drained all his pride. But even then, she still firmly rejected him. The mental strain snapped something inside him.

When he looked up again, his eyes were red and his voice was hoarse and full of suppressed emotion. "Is it because of Zachary? Have you fallen for him?"

A wave of exhaustion flickered in Roxanne's eyes. She had already guessed that this was how it would go. "I didn't choose to break up with you because of him. He's always been my senior."

At least, that was true for now. They hadn't crossed any lines, after all.

And even if they had, it didn't matter. She had already told Sebastian they were breaking up. He was the one who kept chasing after her.
