Mending a Broken Love (Roxanne and Sebastian) novel Chapter 79

But at that moment, nothing else mattered. Only one thought consumed his mind—Roxanne couldn't die. His body moved faster than his mind. His brain hadn't commanded him to jump, but his body had already leaped.

Peter watched Sebastian. He couldn't understand Sebastian anymore. Until now, he had been absolutely certain that Sebastian cared more about Liana.

But just as Sebastian had said, if it had been Liana who jumped, he wouldn't have followed. But when Roxanne jumped, he didn't hesitate.

Peter asked, "Are you sure you don't have any romantic feelings for Liana?"

Sebastian's response was immediate. "No."

Peter frowned. "Then why are you so good to her? Why do you spoil her like that? Don't tell me it's just because of Miles."

Sebastian countered, "What else could it be?"

He had always been emotionally detached. If Liana were just another woman, she wouldn't hold any special place in his life.

Miles died because of him. Before Miles passed, he had begged Sebastian to take care of his only sister, and Sebastian had agreed. His care for Liana was nothing more than a responsibility. It was just fulfilling a promise—nothing more.

Peter didn't even know how to respond anymore. He had never thought Sebastian was the type to be so bound by responsibility.

But thinking about it, his "special treatment" of Liana was nothing beyond that. It was just… a little extra care.

But something changed one night when his gastric flared up. It had been a holiday, so the maids had all left. He was alone in his study, doubled over in excruciating pain.

If Roxanne hadn't found him that night, he might have literally died from the agony. She had been calm, almost unnervingly so. She called Nicholas, explained the symptoms, and listened carefully to his instructions.

She helped him onto the couch, retrieved the medicine from the medical kit, and fed it to him. Then, following Nicholas' advice, she prepared warm, soothing food to ease his pain.

Slowly, the pain subsided. Even the strongest, coldest man needed warmth and care in moments of vulnerability.

At that moment, he finally paid attention to Roxanne. From then on, she paid extra attention to his health. Every day, she prepared food that was gentle on her stomach. Every day, she waited for him to come home—just like a devoted wife.
