In the alley. Mia and her crew got even more aggressive.
Back then, all Mia had to do was say the word, and Edith would hand over anything good she had.
Mia yanked open Edith’s backpack and was pissed off. “Not even a penny? Are you screwing with me?”
Mia’s friends crowded around. “Looking sharp, Edith. Why not share some cash with us?”
“Come on, we’re all friends. Don’t be so stingy.”
“We’ll give it back later, chill.”
The girls pressed in even closer to Edith. Edith’s eyes grew icy.
Edith didn’t want to look back on those gloomy years, but Mia just had to drag her crew over and pick a fight. Edith decided to fight back.
She didn’t even need to use any real power. As her hand was about to strike, a different voice echoed. “Mia, you bitch, you’re really shameless.”
Edith turned and saw the thug from last night swaggering in with his crew.
The thug, named Cody, spat in Mia’s direction. “That girl risked her life to save your ass last night, and now you try to shake her down for cash? You’ve got no fucking shame.”
Mia, with her squad behind her, acted tough and shot back, “So, what if I borrow a little cash from my friend? Why don’t you just butt out and mind your own damn business?”
Cody snapped. He yanked a short knife from his waistband. Without warning, he charged straight at Mia.
Mia’s eyes went wide with fear, and she bolted. Cody sprinted after her.
Edith gave a cold little smile. She’d only saved Mia last night because of the System. At that moment, there was no way she’d bother wasting her time on Mia. She picked up her backpack and turned to leave.
But just as Edith was about to leave, Cody, who had been chasing after Mia, suddenly doubled back and launched himself at Edith, catching her off guard.
Cody’d been totally thrashed by Edith last night, and he was so humiliated that he was here to get some payback.
He moved so fast that by the time Edith realized what was happening, the knife had already sliced across her forearm.
The blade cut right through Edith’s shirt and bit into her skin. Her expression turned icy in an instant. She drove her foot into him with most of her strength.
Cody was sent flying, crashing into the alley wall. He clutched his chest, coughing violently.
Cody’s cronies were shell–shocked. They realized that even if they all teamed up, there was no way they could take her on.

Chapter 100
Edith rolled up her sleeve and glanced at the thin scratch on her arm. Just a little blood, nothing serious.
She shot a frosty look at the guys in front of her. “Does anyone else want a piece of this?”
“N–Nope, we’re good.” The thugs scrambled over to help Cody.
Just then, a car rolled to a stop at the entrance to the alley, and behind the window was a beautiful face.
Marcus had never realized his eyesight could be this good. He could make out the vivid slash of red from Edith’s wound.
Little beads of blood welled up from Edith’s scratch, but she just ignored it entirely. Marcus felt a little annoyed at her
indifference.
‘Her arm’s perfect. If that cut leaves a scar, won’t it spoil her beauty?‘ Marcus thought. He pushed open the car door and stepped out, walking over.
“Just you wait,” Cody yelled, seething with rage.
Edith scoffed, amused and a little contemptuous. ‘Seriously, this guy never learns. Got his butt kicked twice already, and
he still has the guts to come back for round three?‘ she thought.
Edith thought that if she was lucky, maybe the System would reward her with another martial arts level up. She pulled her
sleeve back down and turned to leave.
Mia, who’d watched the whole scene play out, stared in total disbelief. “Edith, what the hell? Did you turn into some kind
of freak or what?”
Edith shot her a cold glance. “Why, you wanna see what it’s like to get sent flying, too?”
Mia felt a deep unease crawl over her. That smile on Edith’s face was downright chilling. Edith was nothing like the girl she
used to know.
Mia realized Edith’s skin was better than before, which made her look surprisingly pretty.
“What, did you pick up those sloppy moves from Sunspire’s street punks?” Mia sneered, reaching for any excuse. “You know, Yosef can’t stand girls who hang with that kind of crowd. You should stop acting like a lost cause.”
Edith cracked up, her eyes cold. “So, bad girls are somehow classier than street thugs to you?”
Mia shot her a glare. “Seriously, you think you’ve got a shot at Yosef? Do yourself a favor and check a mirror. You’re ugly as hell, and you still try to get his attention.”
The girls behind Mia shared silent looks, thinking to themselves, ‘If Edith is what ugly looks like, and then we might as well be put back on the assembly line!
Just then, a ridiculously good looking man, Marcus, appeared in the alley.
The alley was still dirty and gray, but with Edith and Marcus showing up, it was like the whole place had been flooded with light.
Mia just stared at Marcus, lovestruck and totally fangirling. She saw him stop right next to Edith, and it felt like someone

‘Last night it was that guy, and now this one, both absolute studs, and they’re all orbiting Edith like she’s the center of the universe,‘ Mia thought, jealousy burning in her chest.
“Hey, handsome, Edith was always tangled up with a bunch of guys. She’d sneak out to hotels with them. Her life is a total
disaster,” Mia blurted out.
Marcus’s eyes went cold. He kicked a pebble with a swift motion, sending it flying. The pebble shot straight at Mia and struck her right in the knee. She screamed and crashed to the ground.
“Get lost,” Marcus ordered, his voice icy and commanding.
His voice was so chilling, it carried all the menace of a dagger pressed to Mia’s brow. She could feel its edge, razor–sharp, in
the air.
Mia instantly turned ghostly pale. Her girls scrambled over, scooped her up, and hurried her away.
Edith turned around, her tone cool and even. “Mr. Larson, what are you doing around Sunspire High School?”
Marcus was caught off guard by Edith’s question. He’d just been past Sunspire High School after work, and happened to
catch sight of her getting surrounded. Next thing he knew, he’d already parked and got out.
He glanced at her arm, the scratch even more striking at that moment. A vivid red mark slashed across her perfect skin.
His gaze trailed up her arm, and he accidentally caught sight of her pink bra strap slipping into view on her shoulder.
That accidental peek reminded him of something he definitely shouldn’t have seen in her closet before, and his cheeks
flushed bright red.
Kane, who had just walked up, spotted Marcus’s face flushing bright red.
‘Is Mr. Larson blushing just from seeing Ms. Lovett? How come I never noticed this before?‘ Kane thought. ‘Well, maybe it’s because Marcus never really spent time alone with women before.‘
Marcus was getting pissed off. ‘Why can’t I control my damn face right now?‘ he grumbled to himself, frustrated.
He kept his face ice–cold. “Get in the car,” he ordered.
