The crystal chandelier cast a harsh light. Edith’s face was cold as she grabbed Hallie by the collar with one hand and dragged her into the room on the first floor where Gavin was staying,

“Cody, turn on the TV,” Edith said coldly.

Cody had seen Edith’s violent side again tonight and didn’t dare argue. He walked over and turned on the TV.

As soon as the TV flipped on, the room was suddenly filled with the sound of heavy breathing coming from the speakers.

Steamy, blush–inducing scenes came on without warning, hitting Hallie right in the face. She instantly got what was going on, and tried to bolt for the door.

Edith shoved her back down into the seat with one hand, sneering. “Cody, watch her. Don’t let her out until she’s finished this episode.”

Trapped, Hallie couldn’t move. She snarled, “Bitch! You really think you can get away with this? You’ll regret it, just wait and see.”

Edith said, “Wasn’t it you who said girls watching this kind of stuff is no big deal? I’m just making your wish come true.”

Edith clapped her hands and walked out, slamming the door shut behind her.

Hallie shot up from her seat, ready to bolt.

But Cody was faster. He stepped right in front of her, licking his lips. “With stuff like this playing, I’m just a man, you know? Can’t promise what I’ll do. So just be a good girl and keep your eyes on the screen, Ms. Lovett.”

When Hallie caught the strange glint in his eyes, real fear started creeping in. She finally realized that Edith was truly furious this time, completely ready to teach her a brutal lesson, no matter the consequences.

If she tried anything now, there was no telling what this shady bodyguard might do to her.

Hallie clenched her fists so hard that her knuckles almost went numb. She sat stiff as a board in her chair, eyes glued to the couples on screen–too humiliated and furious to look away.

Then, her face gradually flushed with shame, and her whole body began to tremble.

Meanwhile, Edith sat in the living room, completely focused on her homework, looking cool and composed, like nothing out of the ordinary had just happened.

Five servants hovered nearby with their heads bowed, not daring to even breathe too loudly.

Gavin was locked up in the attic, and Hallie was shut in the guest room. The servants wanted to step in but were way too scared Edith might toss them out directly if they tried anything.

It was already half past eleven when the sound of a car engine finally broke the silence at the entrance of the Lovett Manor. Vincent and Karen stepped out of the car together.

Karen had actually finished her business hours ago, but she’d made a detour to Lovett Group to keep Vincent company while he worked late. Then they drove back together.

The moment Karen walked through the door, she immediately sensed something was off.

Vincent, though, didn’t notice a thing. Spotting Edith at the coffee table in the living room, focused on her homework, he beamed with fatherly pride.

He said, “Edith, don’t wear yourself out studying. It’s already so late. Go take a shower and go to bed early.”

Edith closed her notebook and was about to speak when Hallie’s voice suddenly broke loose from the guest

room.

Hallie kept herself glued to the TV at first, trying hard not to fall apart. But after a while, she just squeezed her eyes shut and listened, hoping for any sign of rescue from outside.

As soon as Hallie recognized Vincent’s voice, she dashed to the door and shouted at the top of her lungs, “Dad, Mom, I’m in here. Please, get me out!”

Her voice was already raw, and she was barely holding back her fear and panic.

Karen felt like her heart was being squeezed in a fist. She didn’t even spare a second to ask questions. She just rushed straight to the guest room and hurriedly unlocked the door with trembling hands.

Hallie fell into Karen’s arms, sobbing so hard that she could barely breathe. “Mom, I was so scared…”

Cody flicked off the TV and strode out, acting all innocent. “Ms. Hallie Lovett, I’ve been staying with you all the time to keep you safe. Nothing to worry about.”

Hallie was crying her eyes out. She thought, ‘Having you in the same room with me is the reason I was so scared, okay?‘

Karen forced down the anger burning inside her and tried to soften her tone as she asked, “Hallie, what happened?”

Hallie was so terrified that she could only sob uncontrollably, too shaken to form a single complete sentence, so Karen could only turn to look at the nearby servants.

Vincent shoved Karen’s hand away and stormed upstairs, kicking the attic door open with a loud bang.

Gavin was gagged with a sock and couldn’t get a single word out.

Vincent quickly untied the ropes binding him and yanked the sock out of his mouth.

“I’m gonna freaking kill Edith that bitch!” Gavin started cursing, his voice full of rage. “I’m gonna make her-”

“Say that one more time!” Vincent snarled, yanking Gavin up by the collar.

He said, “You’re a member of the Young family, not one of us. I can’t be bothered to lay a hand on you, but from now on, you’re banned from the Lovett Manor. Someone, throw him out!”

The servants hurried over, each grabbing an arm, and dragged Gavin out without a second thought.

Gavin was on the brink of madness. “Aunt Karen, you have to stand up for me!”

But before he could get another word out, Cody shoved him straight into the car. The vehicle tore away down. the drive, leaving his indignant shouting echoing behind.

Karen clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms. Her carefully orchestrated scheme had been destroyed.

She looked over at Edith, and the provocation in Edith’s eyes was like a spark, igniting the fury inside her.

“Vincent, this time Edith’s really gone too far!” Karen said, trying hard to hold back her anger. “Hallie was just sticking up for her cousin. She only said that stuff to protect him. Is that seriously why Edith made her watch that garbage?”
