Chapter 134
The week flew by. The National Piano Competition had two rounds. The preliminaries came first, and the top 100 would move on to the finals.
Kerrie was confident that Edith would make it into the top 100. If she failed to pass the preliminaries, it would only mean that her judgment was off.
Kerrie said, “Day one is the preliminaries, day two is free time, day three is the finals, and the awards ceremony will be on the evening of day four.”
She smiled and continued, “We’ll need to stay in Bonrea for about four or five days. I’ve sorted out your leave, so just go home and pack. I’ll come by to pick you up tomorrow morning.”
Edith nodded.
After finishing her practice, she returned home, and it was nearly ten in the evening. As soon as she stepped inside, she saw Karen sitting in the living room, along with June, both directing the servants. to pack some luggage.
“It’s colder in Bonrea, and you’ll need a few sweaters,” Karen said. “I’ve matched your outfits and even took photos of which colors go with which clothes and shoes. Don’t mix them up.”
June added, “Stop worrying about the competition for now. Keep calm and do your best. The preliminaries aren’t that hard, and you’ll definitely do well. Don’t stress yourself too much.”
Edith walked in, and only then did June stop talking. She looked up at her, her expression slightly indifferent. “Edith, I heard from Ms. Clark that you’re also going to Bonrea for the piano competition,
right?”
Edith nodded. “Yeah, I’m leaving with Ms. Clark tomorrow morning.”
She made it clear that Karen and June didn’t need to worry about her.
“Edith, you need to put effort into your strong points to get better,” June hinted. “It’s your final year of high school. You should focus on studying, not on hobbies.”
“Edith is doing really well in school,” Joseph said, leaning on the railing and blinking. “Hallie topped last time, and Edith was fourth. don’t even know if Hallie will stay first this time.”
June was somewhat taken aback. She thought, ‘Edith came from a small town. How on earth did she get fourth place? She was supposed to be at the bottom.”
Karen said in a calm tone, “Edith didn’t do well on the entrance exam, but in just over two weeks, she

reached fourth place. Isn’t that-”
She laughed lightly.
June realized what Karen meant. She thought Edith probably cheated. Otherwise, with her eage nature to prove herself, she would have made a big deal of such high scores,

Edith didn’t even bother talking to people who weren’t worth her time. She just headed upstairs, and when she opened her door, she saw Zachary rummaging around in her room.
“Edith, how come you don’t even have a single new outfit?” Zachary ran his fingers through his hair. “I want to help you pack, but I don’t even know where to start.”
Her wardrobe looked spacious, but there was nothing inside.
Edith said irritably, “Don’t worry about it. Just get out of here.”
Zachary scratched his head in frustration. He noticed Joseph growing closer to Edith, while he seemed left out. He wanted to do something for her, too.
Edith shook her head. “Just focus on studying. You don’t need to worry about me.”
“You’ve always worried about me, haven’t you?” Zachary said softly. “We’re family, and we should care for each other. I just booked a hotel in Bonrea for you, and they’ll take care of everything.”
Edith glanced over and saw it was a five–star hotel’s presidential suite, costing 6 thousand dollars a
night.
Karen had spoiled these boys for years, hoping to raise them as playboy heirs. As a result, they had not real sense of money.
The room didn’t stress Edith at all, but it wasn’t ideal for her competition. She said, “This hotel is too far from the venue. Prelims start at nine, and with the morning rush, I’d have to get up at six.”
Zachary felt upset. “Then I’ll book another one,”
He searched quickly on his phone, his face full of frustration. He regretted not booking earlier because no five–star rooms were available, only three–star.
Edith chuckled. “Don’t worry about me. The organizers will handle it. If you have time, buy some food
for me.”
With a task at hand, Zachary brightened immediately. He slung an arm around Joseph’s shoulder, and they headed to the neighborhood supermarket to buy snacks.

As they went downstairs, they saw Hallie carrying four suitcases–gowns in one, daily clothes in another, cosmetics in the third, and snacks filling the fourth.
They exchanged a glance, silently coming to a decision.

By the time Edith finished ordering her competition outfits and shoes online, it was already eleven at night. The boys hadn’t returned yet.
Just as she was about to step out and check, the door swung open, and the two of them came in, each dragging a suitcase.
Zachary said, “Edith, I bought these gowns for you. I wasn’t sure what you’d like, so I had the staff pick a few. There are eight in total. Take whichever you like for Bonrea. I also got matching shoes, bags, and jewelry.”
Joseph said, “Edith, I got you some casual outfits. I think dresses look better on you. Take a look. Do you like any of them?”
As the two suitcases were opened, their contents spilled out, covering the floor with clothes and
shoes.
Edith was amused. “I’m only going to Bonrea for four days. Is all this really necessary? By the way,
what about the snacks I asked you to get?”
System’s voice came. [You’ve earned your family’s genuine love. Reward unlocked: a jumbo snack pack.]
Edith realized that she always got what she wished for. She thought maybe she should ask for a handy
weapon next time.
After the boys went to bed, Edith grabbed her reward. Chips, candy, jelly, yogurt, and all of it. She planned to bring everything to Bonrea.
Before dawn the next day, Edith heard voices downstairs.
Vincent sounded irritated. “What are you doing here? I won’t allow you to move back.”
