Reborn, She's Back for Revenge novel Chapter 140

Chapter 140

Edith’s hair dried quickly. She was just getting ready for bed when another knock sounded at the door.

Edith stood at the door, a little wary. Who is it?

Edith, it’s me.A soft and timid voice came from outside.

Edith opened the door and found Marcus standing there. His usually sharp eyes were brimming with tears, and the next second, he threw himself into her arms.

Edith, I thought I’d never see you again,Marcus said, his voice choked with tears.

Edith was stunned. A sixfootone guy was clinging to her and actually crying. And this was Bonrea; if anyone who knew Marcus saw him like this, it’d cause such a scene.

Totally at a loss, Edith just dragged him into the room.

She honestly thought Marcus had completely recovered, but now it looked like the other personality had shown up again.

Edith had already prepared herself to never see Dodo again, but now that he was here, she couldn’t help but feel a little happy about it.

Maybe this would be the last time Edith saw Dodo, so she held back from sending him away as she’d done before.

Edith, Marcus is being mean to me,” Dodo cried out, his voice full of indignation. He didn’t even hesitate- just jumped straight into complaining.

Marcus finally got why everyone always mistook him for Marcus; it was because they actually shared the same body.

For some weird reason, Dodo even had access to Marcus’s memories. He used to think there was nothing wrong with crying; after all, he was only five years old.

But now, with Marcus’s perspective bleeding into his own, Dodo realized that someone his size bawling their eyes out was actually super embarrassing.

What Dodo had always thought was normal now made him feel awkward, so he choked back his tears.

Dodo cleared his throat and tried to toughen up his voice before saying, Edith, Marcus won’t let me come out or see you. He’s so mean. Edith, you should just ignore him from now on.

Edith was a bit taken aback. Dodo’s voice didn’t sound all soft and childish anymore; now he actually sounded like a regular teenager.

If it weren’t for the way he kept calling her Edith, she never would have believed this was the other personality.

Edith tried to brush it off and gently asked, So, Dodo, how did you get out?

Dodo touched his chin and bit his lip, but as soon as he did, a voice in his head reminded him that this was an unseemly gesture; girls didn’t like guys doing that kind of thing.

Man? Nono. I’m just a kid, Dodo thought to himself. No, I can’t always stay a kid. I have to grow up fast and become a real man, so I can protect Edith.

Thinking that, Dodo immediately sat up straighter and said seriously, I think Marcus got tired, so I took the chance to come out.

Edith could see the way that Dodo was picking up more and more of Marcus’s vibe. The two personalities were slowly blending together, and it wouldn’t be long before Marcus finally became whole.

The childish, purehearted Dodo was also Marcus, just his younger self coming through.

The mature, steady self was Marcus, too, but that was just the polished version he wanted the world to see.

As for who Marcus really was deep down, not even Edith could say.

Edith bent down and pulled some snacks out of her suitcase. Want anything?

Dodo’s eyes sparkled; he lost all concern for looking cool and dove straight in. I love chips and jelly. Wow, there’s so much tasty stuff. I’ve never seen this many snacks in my life.”

Halfway through talking, images of him munching on snacks popped up in his memory. Haven’t I eaten these before? Then why does it still feel like this is all brand new to me?he wondered.

Dodo clearly remembered living in the orphanage, but in those memory flashes, he was in some ultrafancy house instead.

What’s up with that?he wondered, a bit confused. Forget it, I’m just going to eat my snacks.’

Dodo plopped down on the edge of the bed, munching on chips and swinging his legs back and forth, looking like the happiest, most carefree kid in the world.

Edith was about to go to bed, but seeing how cheerful Dodo was, she asked, Do you want to hear a story?

She’d tell him a bedtime story to lull him to sleep, then call Kane to come pick him up.

It was probably the last time she’d see Dodo, and Edith didn’t want to see him burst into tears in front of her.

Dodo’s eyes sparkled. Dodo said, I want to hear a story about a princess and a prince.

Edith smiled and nodded, Okay, let me tell you about Snow White. Once upon a time, there was an unbelievably beautiful princess. Her skin was as white as the falling snow, so she was called Snow White.

After she was born, her mother passed away, and the king married another queen. This new stepmother was dazzlingly beautiful, too, but more importantly, she was super wicked-

As Edith spoke, Dodo started to feel sleepy. He let out a big yawn, his eyes drifting shutonly for them to

Marcus stared quietly at Edith’s profile. Her skin was delicate, almost luminous in the dim light, and he just couldn’t look away.

Marcus’s heart was pounding out of control in his chest.

Edith kept on telling the story, her voice drifting softly in the air. Her pale pink lips parted and closed as she spoke.

And Marcus was suddenly hit with an uncontrollable urge to kiss those lips.

If I were still Dodo, I could’ve easily stayed, maybe even clung to her and shared her bed, just like before, he wondered. The more he imagined it, the wilder his heart pounded.

Thump, thump, thump. His heart was beating so hard, and with them sitting so close, Edith heard every single beat.

She looked up at him in surprise. Dodo, what’s wrong?

Marcus turned his head, and for a second, their eyes met.

Her eyes were beautiful, big and round like a full moon, calm and clear as a still lake. Light shimmered in their depths, mysterious and deep, making him want to dive right in.

Marcus felt a sudden rush in his chest, the sensation rippling through his whole body. It was like his heart was about to leap out of his chest.

He shot up from the bed. Ms. Lovett, I’m not Dodo.

Edith felt embarrassed. She hadn’t even noticed when Marcus had switched back. She’d been telling a story in her best talking to a little kid voice.

I really hope I didn’t say anything totally out of place, she thought, feeling awkward.

Edith stood up quickly. Well, since you’re back to normal, I’ll walk you out, Mr. Larson.

Edith walked over and opened the door.

Marcus felt a suffocating frustration. When he was Dodo, Edith had dragged him right into the room and let him hang out on her bed. But now, as soon as he was himself again, she was eager to send him away.

Guess she actually prefers that childish little Dodo?Marcus couldn’t help feeling a bit sour.

Bang. The door slammed shut behind him. Marcus stood outside, his expression thunderous with frustration.

But even as he glowered at the closed door, he still couldn’t understand why his heart was still beating out of control.

He rapped on the door again, a little impatient this time.

Edith slumped against the door, practically about to lose it. Will this day ever end? Why is it so freaking hard to just get some sleep?she thought, totally exasperated.

She pulled the door open, plastering on a fake smile. Mr. Larson, what now?

Marcus cleared his throat. My mom really likes you, and she’d love for you to come over to our place for dinner sometime. Are you free?

He thought it’d be way better to ask Edith himself than let Larry do it; he hated how his family kept trying to pair her up with Larry.

Edith was just about to tell him she was busy, but her words froze when she saw that the tips of his ears were suddenly burning bright red.

Under the warm yellow light, that flush looked so vivid that his ears almost glowed.

Edith was totally stunned. For a moment, it was as if she could see Dodo’s shy innocence shining right through Marcus.
