Edith returned to Sunspire before Kerrie. On the plane, the three of them sat in a row, with Edith by the window.
She turned to her brothers and asked softly, “Did you hear what I said to Dad?”
Zachary had caught some of it, and his voice was a bit heavy as he replied, “If this is true, I won’t let Karen off.”
Joseph pursed his lips and said nothing. He thought back to many memories from his childhood. He had always believed Karen was good to him. He’d even called her Mom for years.
But now, thinking carefully, he realized that behind every kindness from Karen, there seemed to be hidden motives. He had been too young to understand back then, but looking back now, everything became so clear, with traces to follow.
He clenched his fists and said, “I know Karen has always been close with Hallie’s uncle. Maybe we can dig up something from the Crawford family.”
Edith replied with a nod, “Let’s report it to the police first, then go find Henry’s father.”
Edith thought, ‘Henry was arrested after the Reed family called the police, and he’s still behind bars.
‘As for Henry’s father, he has gotten himself into legal trouble over tax evasion and is still under investigation. by the police.
‘Getting the Crawford family to testify won’t be hard at all. With greedy people like them, all it takes is cash.
The plane glided through the clouds, and before long, they were back in Sunspire. By the time the three of them hit the airport, it was already late, so they could only wait until morning to go to the police station.
After hearing them out, the cop rejected and replied, “It’s been six years. We checked into it, but couldn’t find the hit–and–run driver. After all this time, there’s no way new evidence will turn up. Even if we reopen the case, it’ll gather dust.”
Zachary, with his short temper, shouted, “It’s been six years and you still haven’t found the culprit? You police are utterly useless.”
At his words, the officers‘ expressions changed. Then the officer replied, “Young man, do you know how many cases the station handles in a single day?
“Do you know how many violent murders still have no suspect caught? A hit–and–run like this isn’t considered a violent case, so naturally, it can only be postponed.”
Edith cut in, “But what if that hit–and–run was a planned murder?”
The officers waved their hands impatiently. Just as he was about to respond, a figure walked in the doorway.
The young officer immediately stood up and said respectfully, “Mr. Davis, what brings you here?”

Edith turned around and saw that it was Kane. She thought, ‘Wait, isn’t Kane supposed to be in Bonrea? Why does he suddenly show up here in Sunspire?‘
Before she could react, Kane had already stepped in and respectfully bowed to her. “Good day, Ms. Lovett, I have some materials to hand over to you,” Kane said.
The cop was taken aback. He thought, ‘Wait. Mr. Davis knows these brats? Who are they? Did I just offend someone way out of my league?‘
Edith didn’t even notice the young cop’s reaction. She accepted the package from Kane, eyeing the seal before carefully opening it.
Inside was a thick file of surveillance stills from the road where her mother’s accident had occurred years ago. Dozens of screenshots were captured every moment, showing the van clearly, license plate and all.
Attached to the end was a written confession by David Crawford. The van was an unclaimed vehicle that he bought from the second–hand market. Edith couldn’t figure out how Kane managed to dig it up.
Edith thought, ‘Marcus must have been watching over me all along. Otherwise, there is no way he would have looked into this old case before I even had the chance.
‘If it had been up to me to dig into the past, I probably never would have managed to uncover all this. This is ironclad evidence.‘
Edith placed all the materials in front of the young police officer. Whether it was because of the evidence itself or because of Kane’s status, the police no longer dared to be negligent and immediately set up a special
task force.
As they left the police station, Edith expressed her gratitude and said, “Please thank Mr. Larson for me.”
Kane replied, “This evidence can only prove Henry’s involvement in the accident. It cannot implicate Karen. Further investigation is still needed. I came back to Sunspire to assist you with establishing your real estate company. Just say the word if you need anything from me.”
This had been arranged with Marcus beforehand, and Edith did not refuse.
She thought, ‘If I hadn’t cleared things up, Marcus would’ve shown up here in Sunspire himself, given his personality
‘Good thing I’ve clarified things. Otherwise, the more people get involved, the more trouble I will have.
Edith said, “I haven’t gathered the full 1.6 million dollars on my side yet. I’ll arrange the money. Mr. Davis, you can go ahead and register the company at the Bureau of Commerce.”
Kane replied with a nod, “What will the company be called?”
“Let’s go with Dithelle Properties,” Edith replied, tossing out a name.
Kane felt a slight pang of regret because the name had nothing to do with Marcus.
He thought to himself, ‘Simps always end up with nothing. Hope Marcus knows when to hold back.

Kane immediately went to the Bureau of Commerce to register the company. Meanwhile, Edith had the driver first take her two younger brothers to school. The two boys had classes today, but insisted on coming along to report the case.
On the way, Zachary asked, “Edith, are you going into business with Marcus?”
Zachary had wanted to stop her, but Marcus had promised to get him a basketball jersey, and he couldn’t turn his back on that.
After a pause, he added, “I think I still have over 250 thousand dollars in my account. I’ll transfer it all to you later.”
Jasper quickly chimed in, “Edith, I’ve got over 120 thousand dollars in my account too. I’ll give you all of it for business.”
Edith asked, “Who gave you all this money?”
Both of them replied in unison, “Karen.”
Edith understood and sneered, “If Karen gave it to you, treat it as pocket money. With all that Lovett Group stock you’ve got, the dividends over these six years should add up to a decent pile.”
Edith thought, ‘The Lovett Group’s annual net profit should be over six to ten million dollars, but not all the earnings are distributed as dividends. Much needs to be reinvested to expand production.
Typically, about half could be distributed to shareholders. Even if they take out three million dollars a year, the five of us will each receive at least 1.6 million dollars per year. Six years, that’s nearly 10 million dollars.
‘If Vincent and Karen get divorced, all that cash will be up for grabs as marital property.‘
After getting home, Edith didn’t even bother to sit down before dialing Vincent’s number.
She got right to the point and said, “Dad, Mr. Larson and I are going into business together, but I’m running low on funds. Could you let me have the dividends ahead of time for me and my brothers?”
Vincent paused for a moment. Then he thought, “The Lovett Group earns solid profits every year, but since the company is still expanding, I have put all the dividends from the kids‘ shares into a brand–new factory.
The plant has just been built and hasn’t started generating any returns yet. Over the years, most of the money saved at home has been spent. This year’s donations and the investment in Karen’s beauty store opening have used up the bulk of it‘
He asked, “Edith, how much do you need?”
“At least 1.6 million dollars. The more the better,” Edith replied.
“Alright, I’ll transfer it to you tonight,” Vincent said. After hanging up, Vincent called his assistant right away and told him to sell part of the new factory’s shares.
