Winfull Estate is very large. However, only half of the second phase had been built, which meant that only half of the homeowners had received their houses.
The two–and–a–half rows of townhouses totaled over 220 units, with a total area of nearly 4,000 square meters and a total price just over three million dollars. But Zachary and Joseph had given Edith their pocket. money, which just covered the gap.
The original real estate owner bought the unfinished project and spent a year renovating, fixing the gardens, constructing the Willow Reservoir, and repairing the roads. The houses, originally priced at 300 dollars, were flipped by the developer to 5,000 dollars.
Edith didn’t have enough capital to rebuild an entire community. After she bought it, all she needed to do was wait. Someone would eventually take over the community, and she would profit from the difference in price. Kane’s face was full of disapproval.
The real estate market in Sunspire had just begun to take off, and many plots of land were still waiting to be developed and purchased. Ten million dollars wasn’t a huge amount, but it certainly wasn’t small either.
Buying a small plot in Sunspire could allow the construction of several apartment buildings, and selling them would easily recoup the investment. Kane had already mapped out a business plan, but he hadn’t expected Edith to play by her own rules.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something. But following Marcus’s instructions, no matter what requests Edith had, he was not to question them. All he could do was quietly contact the homeowners in the community.
The homeowners had been fighting for their rights and were in touch with major news media. They quickly gathered together.
Even though it was already nighttime, they could barely contain their excitement.
They thought, ‘Someone actually wanted to buy our properties? Could it be that someone was finally taking over this hot potato?
Everyone here was just an ordinary person. They had paid thousands of dollars as a down payment for a home, using almost a lifetime of savings. The money was spent, yet the houses were uninhabitable.
On top of that, they still had to make monthly mortgage payments. It was as if half their life savings had gone down the drain. They surely would get furious.
This was the very first time anyone had stepped up to buy the unfinished project. They couldn’t afford to let this chance to turn their luck around slip away.
“You bought these five years ago for one thousand dollars per square meter. This time, we are acquiring them at one thousand dollars per square meter,” Kane said calmly.
Then she added, “All the contracts are here, stamped by our company. As long as you sign, the payment will be transferred to your account within three days.”

Everyone was stunned, mouths agape. They would have agreed even if it had been at 300 dollars per square meter, let alone 1,000 dollars. They suspected this could be a scam.
Some voiced doubts, some asked all sorts of questions, and the scene grew chaotic.
Kane had been an assistant for many years and had seen all sorts of tricksters. These ordinary people were nothing to him. Standing on the platform, he answered everyone’s questions one by one. Finally, someone believed him and became the first to sign.
Edith knew this whole thing was easy enough to pull off. She helped the owners sign their paperwork, and just then, her phone pinged with a new message.
She glanced down. It was a voice recording by Cody. She pressed her lips together, deciding to leave it for now. She waited until every contract was signed, then got into her car and listened to the recording where no one could bother her.
The recording went: [Mrs. Lovett, I feel for you. You married into the Lovett family and worked diligently, yet ended up with this outcome.
[If you had done something wrong, it would be one thing, but you helped Mr. Lovett raise the children and always worked diligently. How could he neglect you like this?]
Then Karen started to talk in the recording: [Cody, there’s something I’ve kept in my heart for many years.
[Now that you’re my confidant, our relationship is more than just boss and employee. I can tell you some things. Actually, the former Mrs. Melinda Lovett died because I ran her over with my car.]
The recording abruptly stopped. Edith gripped her phone tightly, taking deep, steady breaths. Although she had known about this matter for a long time, hearing it directly from Karen’s own mouth still left her in utter disbelief.
Over the past week, the police investigated the six–year–old car accident. Interrogating David and trying to get Karen’s statement yielded no concrete evidence. David’s involvement could be confirmed, but nothing linked
Karen to the case.
Edith sent the audio recording to her lawyer. The lawyer said, “Ms. Lovett, this is a secret recording. It can’t be admitted as evidence in court. We’ll need to find solid witnesses and more concrete proof”
Edith pressed her fingers against her temples, trying to calm the storm brewing in her head. She thought, After more than a week of investigation, the case has made no progress. Would it fade away like it did six years ago?
Kane tapped on the car window, then bent down and got in. He began to report and said, “After these property acquisitions, the workload has increased. The company may need to hire at least two additional
staff”
Edith replied with a nod, “You can handle these matters. First, take me to the Lovett Group”
Kane drove her to the entrance of the Lovett Group. In Edith’s memory, she seemed to come here often as a child. After her mother left, she never returned. The place felt both familiar and strange.
She stepped inside, but the receptionist didn’t reconize her and a

She called Vincent on her phone. Vincent told his secretary to come down and escort her, and the secretary bowed low, calling out, “Ms. Lovett.”
The receptionist quietly took note that besides Hallic, the Lovett family also had a Ms. Lovett.
Edith was led to the CEO’s office. Vincent put down the documents in his hands and said, “Edith, what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at school for evening study?”
Edith pulled out her phone and replied, “Dad, I want you to listen to a recording.”
She pressed play and set the phone on the desk. As soon as Karen’s voice came through, Vincent’s expression changed.
From the sound of it, Karen seemed to be having an inappropriate relationship with another man.
But by the end of the recording, Vincent couldn’t even focus on whether he’d been cheated on anymore.
A look of immense grief and disbelief appeared on his face. He said, “It really is her. How could she do something like this? How could I have married such a woman? Edith, I was wrong.”
For a man nearly six feet tall, Vincent trembled all over, tears falling uncontrollably down his face.
He hugged his head, crouching as if the weight of it all might crush him, his sobs trapped painfully in his chest.
Edith pressed her lips tight and said, “The lawyer said this recording isn’t enough to convict Karen. Dad, what do you think we should do next?”
Vincent kept his head down; he couldn’t bear for Edith to see him like this, his eyes red and brimming with
tears.
Suppressing his sobs, he said softly, “I must divorce. No matter how the case is judged, I will divorce.”
Edith nodded, giving Vincent the space he needed. Only when he was alone could he cry without restraint. If Edith hadn’t felt it in her heart, he would never have known the person he loved dearly had been killed by the woman lying beside him.
Wiping his tears away, he sat down and started drafting the divorce papers himself. Karen didn’t deserve a single cent from him. He was going to make sure she left with absolutely nothing.
If the law couldn’t punish her, he would turn her life into a living hell, worse than any prison sentence.
