Karen looked at Cody, and Cody thoughtfully bent down to lift the wheelchair over a threshold in front of them.

Hallie saw this and sighed quietly, barely audible to anyone else. She knew Cody liked her, and to win her favor, he even acted very attentive toward her mother. But she couldn’t see herself being interested in a lowly security guard.

She pulled out the divorce agreement from her bag and coldly threw it onto the coffee table. Then she said, “I will not agree to this divorce. Don’t even think about leaving me.”

Vincent’s expression remained indifferent. Then he said, “I guess we’ll see you in court.”

“Dad, why do you have to divorce Mom?” Hallie said, her eyes shimmering with tears. “Mom lost her legs in that accident, and you’re already bringing up divorce before she’s even out of the hospital.

“If this gets out, what will outsiders think of you? I don’t want them to blame Mom for being heartless or ungrateful.”

Vincent replied with a dry laugh, “Hallie, if you want to know what your mother did, go ask her. There’s no need to make veiled accusations at me.”

“But the police never arrested Mom, so that proves she didn’t have anything to do with that case six years ago,” Hallie insisted, her tone unshaken.

Vincent shook his head and added, “So you’re saying the van your uncle bought had nothing to do with your

mother?”

“My uncle cares about me. He couldn’t bear to see me without a father, so he did something wrong behind Mom’s back. He’s already in prison and has received the punishment he deserves. Dad, why do you keep holding onto this?” Hallie questioned.

She added, “If this is the reason for the divorce, the judge won’t side with you. The agreement that strips Mom of everything is absurd. For six years, she gave her all to this family. Divorce should mean an equal split of property.”

Vincent suddenly found the whole situation ridiculous. He couldn’t believe he had cared for this daughter for six years.

His face was clouded with disappointment as he continued, “I might not have hard proof about what happened six years ago, but Karen, when it comes to your affair while we were married, I have solid proof.”

Karen clenched her teeth, her voice trembling with fury as she shouted, “That’s not true. I never cheated on you.

Vincent tossed out several photos. These were all sent by Cody to Edith and then forwarded to him by Edith.

Vincent hadn’t wanted to bring up the affair at all, especially not in front of Hallic, but Hallie had disappointed him too much. He had to let her see Karen’s true nature.

“Mr. Lovett, there’s something I need to say,” Cody cut in. He finally broke his silence.

Karen felt a flicker of admiration in her heart. Although Cody’s status was low, he dared to speak up at such a critical moment. That showed a real man’s sense of responsibility.

She thought, ‘If the divorce happens, I won’t mind dating him.‘ Just as these thoughts flashed through her mind, she heard what Cody said, and she froze.

She tilted her head slightly to look at him. Then she shouted, “W–What did you say? Say it again!”

Cody lowered his head slightly and repeated, “I said, I have photos of me and Karen together in bed. Mr. Lovett, do you want to see them?”

He pulled out his phone, swiped through his gallery, and said, “This one, and this one. Do these prove my relationship with Mrs. Lovett?”

Karen’s eyes went wide in disbelief as she stared at Cody’s phone. Those were actual bed photos.

While Karen was hospitalized, she could only lie in bed and go nowhere. At first, Cody sat on a chair beside her bed to take care of her. Later, he sat on the bed and gradually leaned against the headboard.

One time, as they were talking, they both fell asleep. When she woke up, she found herself in Cody’s arms. Everything happened so naturally, and she never even saw it coming.
