Vincent got home late that night.

As soon as he stepped inside, Dallas hurried over. “Mr. Lovett, I heard Mrs. Lovett was arrested for theft. I checked into it–the amount is a staggering six million dollars. If things go badly, she could get ten years in prison, or even life.”
Vincent was in total disbelief. Karen was venomous, but he just couldn’t picture her doing something like stealing money.
He realized Hallie had probably tried to ask him for help earlier when she called. He immediately called back. The phone vibrated a couple of times, then went to voicemail. He tried again, but there was still no answer.
Meanwhile, Hallie’s phone kept buzzing on the coffee table.
She stared at it, biting her lip in silence. The screen flashed with the word “Dad.”
“Your father’s calling. Why aren’t you answering?” Jonathan remarked from the couch, sounding casual.
Jonathan leaned back against the sofa, a cigarette held loosely between his fingers. He took a slow drag, exhaling a cloud of smoke with an air of careless ease.
Hallie picked up her phone, hung up, and shoved it into her pocket. With her teeth digging into her lower lip, she said, “Thanks for giving me a ride to the hospital. I’m alright now, so I’ll get going.” She turned, ready to leave.
Jonathan crushed out his cigarette with a smirk. “Let me guess… You’re fighting with your father? If you stormed out, crawling back now would be kind of lame. Don’t you think?
“If you’ve got nowhere else to crash, I’ve got a spare room. Relax, I’m at least a decade older than you. I’m not about to get any weird ideas.”
He stood up and headed for the hospital doors.
Hallie bit her lip even harder, hesitated for a moment, then finally decided to follow after him.
The driver barely batted an eye when Jonathan showed up with a pretty young girl in tow. Everyone knew Jonathan was a bit of a womanizer, always having his fun outside and keeping things from his wife.
Seeing this girl–so young and attractive–the driver just assumed Jonathan was up to his usual tricks, probably planning to keep her around for a few days.
The car finally rolled to a stop in front of a standalone mansion.
Hallie looked up, stunned–this place easily dwarfed the Lovett Manor.
She’d always thought the Lovett family had serious money. But after seeing what Jonathan owned, she realized she’d been living in a bubble her whole life.

Jonathan shot her a sideways glance. “What’s the matter, too scared to go in? Worried I’ll eat you alive or what?”
“Mr. Quinn, you’re a decent guy. I know you are,” Hallie said, not hesitating as she followed him inside.
Inside, one of the maids greeted them. She looked at Hallie like it was just another day on the job, then casually showed her straight to the guest room.
The room was decked out with everything Hallie could need. She decided to take a bath first, letting the hot water wash away the day’s stress and exhaustion.
When she finished the bath, she realized she’d forgotten to grab a bathrobe. She opened the bathroom door, stepping out completely naked, and suddenly froze. There, sitting on the edge of the bed, was Jonathan.
She gasped, scrambling to shield herself. “M–Mr. Quinn, why are you in my room?” Hallie stammered in panic, turning to run back toward the bathroom.
But Jonathan was already on his feet, closing the distance between them. He tilted her chin up. “Now you’ve learned your first lesson–never trust a man’s word.” He took a drag from his cigarette and blew the smoke right in her face.
Hallie coughed lightly, her skin glistening under the lamplight with a soft, dreamlike glow.
Jonathan leaned in and kissed her neck, causing a shudder to run through her body.
She’d told herself she was ready, but now that the moment arrived, it was still too much for her to handle.
Her mind flashed to her mother, who’d put up with a guy like Cody just to have someone to rely on. Compared to him, Jonathan was on another level. And for that, at least, she felt a wave of relief.
With tears welling up in her eyes, Hallie whispered, “M–Mr. Quinn, I’ve never done this before. I’m scared…”
Jonathan hesitated when he heard that. He was worried that getting rid of her would be a real headache if he got involved now, since she was a virgin.
But while he was still wavering, Hallie rose up on her toes and pressed her lips to his.
She pulled back instantly, tears glimmering in her wide eyes. “Mr. Quinn, I don’t really know how to do it. Can you teach me?” Her voice was soft and fragile, sending a faint tremor through Jonathan’s heart.
He’d been ready to let her go, but the sweetness of her kiss and her delicate innocence triggered his desire in
an instant.
A fire ignited within him, and the air grew heavy with raw, unspoken desire.
It was hard to tell how much time had passed before they finally stopped in the room.
Hallie kept sobbing quietly, and Jonathan, feeling a complicated mix of guilt and tenderness, pulled her into his arms, trying to comfort her.

her.
Jonathan tried to be patient. “You’re with me now–that makes you my woman. I was too impulsive today. Just tell me what you want, whatever it is, and I’ll make it up to you.”
After drifting for a whole night with nowhere to go, Hallie finally felt like she had something solid to hold onto. She’d traded her youth for security, wanting nothing more than someone strong to lean on.
She almost asked Jonathan to get her mother out of jail, but in the end, she just couldn’t bring herself to say it.
‘Mom’s already disabled,‘ she thought bitterly. ‘Even if she got out, I’d end up taking care of everything. When would I ever have time for my own life?‘
This was her one shot, and she wanted to spend it on herself. But she didn’t know what she could ask for. Asking for too much would make Jonathan leave, while asking for too little would waste her entire night’s effort.
She lowered her head, her voice barely audible. “I ran away tonight after fighting with my dad. I really don’t want to stay in Sunspire anymore. Mr. Quinn, could you help me leave this place?”
Jonathan glanced at her, curiosity flickering in his eyes. “So, where do you want to go?”
Hallie bit her lip, whispering, “Is it possible I can go study in Bonrea?”
Jonathan let out a low chuckle, not expecting her to be so innocent. He didn’t even hesitate before nodding.
The night faded away in perfect silence, leaving nothing behind.
Edith woke up well–rested the next morning. She saw Vincent slouched on the couch, with dark circles under his eyes, talking on the phone.
“Yeah, my daughter’s been missing all night,” he said urgently. “Can’t reach her at all, so I have to report it to the police.”
Edith couldn’t care less where Hallie had ended up.
On her way to class, Edith called Kane. “Can you look into Karen’s situation? Something about this case feels off. Track down every detail for me.”
Kane went silent. I’m the one who set this whole thing up. What exactly is there to investigate?‘ he thought.
That guy named Pearson never existed. He was just someone Kane arranged to lure Karen into the trap.
But he’d never expected Karen to fall for it so easily. Now, this setup was enough to keep her locked up for at least ten years.
