He quickly replied, “Mr. Larson is in Bonrea, keeping his father company. He should be back in Sunspire in a day or two.”

Marcus drove himself to pick them up. Dwight and Fiona sat together in the back seat, with Stella joining them as well.

Once everyone was settled in, Dwight said, “Marcus, I wouldn’t have recovered if it weren’t for Edith. When are you inviting her over for a meal? Let’s have a proper get–together.”

Fiona shot him a sideways glance. “Edith just visited us not long ago. If you call her over again already, aren’t you afraid she’ll be scared off?”

She knew all too well how young people felt about these things–most of them could barely stand dealing with family gatherings and elders.

With all the people in the Larson family, one visit from Edith was honestly more than enough. She was worried that if they asked Edith over again so soon, Edith might be scared off and never set foot here again.

“Better to settle it early,” Dwight said, reclining in his chair. “Back in the day, there were a bunch of guys trying to win you over. If I hadn’t confessed first, you’d probably have picked someone else. Like they say, ‘strike while the iron’s hot.”

Marcus’s fingers twitched.

Fiona coughed deliberately. “You weren’t even the first to confess. You showed up every single day, making everyone think you were already my boyfriend. After that, nobody else dared to talk to me, so in the end, marrying you was basically the only option left.”

Dwight just laughed. “Well, I still managed to charm your parents. Once they were sold on me as their future son–in–law, you didn’t stand a chance of turning me down.”
