Reborn, She's Back for Revenge novel Chapter 46

Chapter 46

Des

Noreen thought she must be hearing things. But Edith was already holding up the green dress, sizing it against her. Noreen’s face flushed with disbelief.

If she put on this expensive dress and walked out, she’d definitely be the center of attention, completely overshadowing Hallie. Even though she was Hallie’s best friend, Noreen still couldn’t help but feel jealous of her.

Hallie was prettier, had a better figure, and every time they stood together, Noreen always ended up playing second fiddle. But with this dress on, she’d finally be the one who looked better than Hallie.

Noreen’s hands trembled with excitement. Then she realized she was still clutching a small paper packet in her palm. It was the little packet Hallie had slipped her earlier.

She needed to slip the laxative powder into Edith’s water cup. Once consumed, it would cause continuous flatulence and bathroom trips. If Edith passed gas during the party, she would be utterly humiliated.

But now, Noreen hesitated. Edith had just given her such an expensive dress, and here she was, about to mess with it behind her back. That just felt wrong. But then she remembered all the times Edith had made her suffer at school.

She’d been shoved into a sink, forced to swallow dirty water, and everyone knew she’d been beaten up by Edith. She couldn’t even lift her head at school these days.

Edith had embarrassed her, so she decided to embarrass Edith in return. After some mental preparation, Noreen finally poured the packet of laxative powder into the water cup, but her hand hesitated, and she only poured half, throwing the rest into the trash.

She had no idea that this tiny bit of hesitation would end up giving her a way out later.

Ten minutes later, Edith stepped out of the lounge. She was wearing the spare clothes she’d brought with her, with a baseball cap pulled low over her head.

She walked through the corridor and returned to the party hall, sitting in a corner of the rest area. From there, she immediately spotted Hallie in the party hall. No matter what, Hallie always managed to keep herself out of trouble.

But Edith wasn’t in a hurry. She had her own ways to bring Hallie crashing down and make her experience all the pain she’d gone through in her previous life.

Just then, a group of people came in through the entrance of the party hall. Edith’s pupils contracted sharply. It was the Crawford family.

In her previous life, she’d spent three years tangled up with the Crawford family. During that time, they bullied and humiliated her. However, they pleased, grinding her pride and self–worth into nothing.

She saw Henry Crawford walk in confidently and noticed Karen greeting him with a warm smile. At her coming–of–age ceremony in her previous life, it was the first time she had met Henry, but that man had ruined half of her life.

She gripped the wine glass so hard that it shattered. Lowering her eyes, she took a moment to compose herself, then used a tissue to gently wipe the wine from her hand. Leaning back on the sofa, she quietly watched the scene unfold over there.

The Crawford family was Karen’s birth family. Ten years ago, they were middle–class. After she married into the Lovett family, her relatives used their influence to start factories, which have developed well in recent years.

Henry was the eldest son of the Crawford family, twenty–five this year, and honestly, he could just about pass for good–looking. He grinned at Hallie. “Hallie, you just keep getting prettier every time I see you.”

Hallie blushed a little. “Thank you, Henry. Come over and take a seat.” With the Crawford family’s arrival, the party officially kicked off.

Vincent, dressed formally, walked onto the stage under the spotlight, smiling. “Welcome to the Lovett family’s party. Today, we want to introduce our eldest daughter-”

He looked toward where the Lovett family was seated. Everyone was there, but Edith was nowhere to be seen.

Mandy Lovett was there too, her face full of displeasure. “At such an important event, where has Edith disappeared? Karen, why aren’t you sending someone to look for her already?”

The hall is stuffy; Edith might be resting in the back, Karen said softly. “Hallie, check the small balcony. Henry searched for the first restroom in the back. Don’t get it wrong,” Karen said.

At that, Henry’s eyes narrowed. He never cared much about these parties packed with women, but Karen insisted he show up today, saying it was about his future happiness.

Is Karen trying to set me up with Edith?‘ he wondered. Edith was the Lovett family’s daughter, and she stood to inherit ten percent of the Lovett Group’s shares. After weighing the pros and cons, Henry headed off to the lounge to look for her.

The first lounge was easy to find. He pushed the door open, and even before he stepped inside, he caught a faint whiff of perfume in the air.

He saw a woman lying on the sofa, wearing a purple dress. Karen had mentioned that Edith would be wearing a purple dress today.

seen.

The whole point of tonight’s party was to introduce Edith to everyone. Without her, the rest of the party was basically on hold.

Mandy’s face grew even more sour. Edith is just as restless as she was when she was little. Six years in a small town, and she still hasn’t learned to rein herself in?”

June spoke up. “Maybe something came up for Edith.”

Karen hid a smile and said gently, “I’ve already sent people to look for her. No need to worry.”

Just then, Isabella Reed walked over. “Hallie, have you seen Noreen? The party’s already started. Where has she gone now?” Isabella asked, her brow furrowed.

Hallie replied sweetly, “Noreen said she wasn’t feeling well and went to the restroom.”

She knew exactly what Noreen was really up to. She’d sent her to slip something into Edith’s drink. But there was no way she could let Isabella catch wind of that.

Edith’s absence made Vincent step down. He smiled, “Today’s wine is from France. Please enjoy. The party will start in ten minutes.” Just as he finished speaking, some strange noises suddenly came from the big screen behind him.

The crowd below all looked up, their faces full of disbelief. Everyone’s eyes went wide in shock.

Vincent slowly turned around, only to see the display screen showing an intimate scene. A man in a suit was sprawled over a young woman in a purple dress, impatiently tugging at her clothes.
