Reborn, She's Back for Revenge novel Chapter 47

Chapter 47

The entire hall fell into a stunned silence. Then, all at once, the place erupted with shocked whispers and heated discussion.

“What’s going on with the screen?” Someone muttered.

Is that live surveillance footage? How could such an indecent scene be shown in public?” Another person gasped.

“That background looks like a hotel rest area. Who would be in there right now?” Someone else wondered aloud.

In the footage, the man’s back was to the camera, and the woman’s hair was a mess, covering most of her face. No one in the room could tell who she was.

Hallie blinked in disbelief and said, “Isn’t that the purple dress Edith is wearing today?”

Karen drew in a sharp breath. “Quick, go find Edith.”

After that little performance between Karen and Hallie, everyone in the party hall got the message.

“Could that woman in the footage be Edith?” Someone whispered.

“She’s not even eighteen yet, is she? How could she do something like that?” someone else said in disbelief.

“She was sent to a small town for six years with no one to watch over her. Who knows what kind of bad habits she picked up? And now that she’s back in Sunspire, she’s already throwing herself at men,” someone else sneered.

Came the disapproving murmurs from all around. Whispers and gossip filled the air, and Mandy was fuming. ‘I should never have come to this party today. I’ve brought nothing but shame to the Lovett family, she thought.

June looked cold and distant. She thought, ‘Melinda was such a noble and pure woman, and yet her daughter turned out to be such a disgrace.

‘For Edith to do something so shameless at a party, it’s going to stain the entire Lovett family’s reputation.

June was about to help Mandy leave, but as she glanced up, she caught a flash of gloating triumph in Karen’s eyes.

The Spence family was no small clan, and June had grown up surrounded by big family drama. She’d seen all kinds of dirty schemes since she was a kid. She saw that look in Karen’s eyes, and it all clicked for her in an instant.

“Turn it off. Turn off the screen. Now!” A shrill voice suddenly cut through the air.

Everyone turned to see Isabella, who was always so elegant and composed, now as pale as a withered leaf, looking like she might collapse at any moment.

She clung to the arm of the person beside her, her voice breaking. Turn off the screen. Hurry!”

The bodyguards in the party hall had all been tipped off by Karen. They were just pacing around the screen, making no move to turn it off.

“What’s going on with Isabella?” someone asked in confusion. The Lovett and Reed families were pretty close, but it’s not like Isabella would be this shaken just because of Edith.

Isabella’s hands were shaking uncontrollably. Everyone in the room was saying the woman in the footage was Edith, but only Isabella recognized the truth. It was her own daughter, Noreen.

She had carried Noreen for nine months, cherished and protected her all these years. Isabella would never mistake her for

anyone else.

No matter why her daughter appeared in that footage, she absolutely could not let anyone in their social circle find out it was Noreen. Otherwise, Noreen’s reputation would be completely destroyed.

Isabella forced herself to steady her voice as she said, “Today’s party is for Edith. No matter what happens, we should at least consider Edith’s reputation.”

Right at that moment, all of a sudden, someone walked into the party hall. With a subtle smile playing at her lips, she let her eyes slowly sweep across everyone present. “Why do I hear everyone talking about me?

Everyone in the room stared at her as if they’d seen a ghost. Then, in unison, they turned to look at the surveillance screen. If the woman in the purple dress wasn’t Edith, then who else could it be?‘ they wondered.

Isabella couldn’t handle the blow anymore. Her eyes rolled back in her head, and she fainted right there on the spot. It was only then that everyone suddenly realized the truth.

“That’s the Reed family’s daughter!someone exclaimed.

“No wonder Isabella lost her composure. It’s her own daughter,” another person said.

“How could the Reed family’s daughter do something like this at the Lovett family’s party?” someone else asked in disbelief.

It dawned on her, far too late. Edith had known about her scheme from the very start, and she’d been double–crossed in her own game.

‘Edith got away unscathed, driving a wedge between the Lovett and Reed families. She’s so cunning,‘ Karen thought. She coldly ordered, “Security, turn off the surveillance cameras now.”

Edith’s smile grew colder. In her previous life, surveillance was never turned off, and she was harassed by Henry for nearly ten minutes. She was only rescued when Mandy stormed in, furious.

Staring at the man lying on the floor, she was in total disbelief. She knew this guy. He was Hallie’s cousin. He once drove Hallie out shopping and even took them out to dinner.

Still reeling in shock and disbelief, Noreen barely had time to react before Henry scrambled up from the floor and charged at her again. “Henry, are you insane?” Noreen shrieked, her voice trembling with fear. “Touch me one more time, and I’ll have my dad chop you up. I don’t care if you’re Hallie’s cousin, my dad will make sure you regret ever laying a finger on me.”

Her furious roar blasted through the surveillance speakers, echoing in the ears of everyone in the party hall.

The Crawford family had only moved to Sunspire six years ago, and their factory was decent but nowhere near big enough to get them into this elite social circle.

No one in the room had ever even heard of Henry. But everyone knew who Hallie was.

“That man is Mrs. Lovett’s nephew?” Someone gasped.

“Ms. Reed was clearly fighting back, so this counts as attempted rape, another person said, their voice filled with shock.

Jeez, what kind of people are in Mrs. Lovett’s family anyway?” Someone else muttered in disbelief.

Karen wished she could faint on the spot. She should have had the surveillance turned off earlier; then no one would have known that the man was her nephew. Her voice broke as she shouted, “You useless bunch, turn off the cameras now.”

The guards quickly cut the power, and the screens went blank. But the murmurs in the hall grew louder. Strange looks came from all directions, pressing down on Karen, making it hard for Karen to breathe.

Ever since she married into the Lovett family, everything had gone her way. She had never had people judge her on her face like this before.

Dear guests, I am truly sorry,” Vincent said, maintaining the Lovett family’s dignity. “Due to an unexpected incident, we must end today’s party early. The Lovett family will host another gathering soon to make it up to you all.”
