Reborn, She's Back for Revenge novel Chapter 49

At the entrance of the party hall, Kane followed Marcus inside. Standing close, Kane caught a whiff of cologne on Marcus. After all these years working for him, it was the first time he’d ever seen Marcus wear any fragrance.

Someone had once suggested Marcus try men’s cologne. Kane couldn’t quite remember, but he was sure Marcus’s tone had been full of scorn and contempt.

But now, here he was, actually wearing it himself. On top of that, Marcus had even asked a stylist to do his hair. His short hair was styled up, making him look like he was almost six feet three.

Kane felt a little awkward. ‘Honestly, Marcus really doesn’t need to go this far, he thought. ‘After all, Edith has already seen him at his absolute worst.

The two entered the empty hall. Marcus‘ brows furrowed. He had imagined many meeting scenarios but never expected this. Coldly, he said, “Go ask what happened.”

Kane was quick on the uptake. In just five minutes, he had pieced together the whole story. Marcus’s expression darkened instantly. His voice was cold as ice as he ordered, “Dig into Karen and Henry. I want every single detail about them, leave nothing out.”

Kane didn’t hesitate. “Yes, sir!” After all, Edith had taken care of Marcus when he was sick. It only made sense for Marcus to stand up for her now.

At the hospital, Noreen had just finished having her stomach pumped and was taken to her hospital room. Isabella sat by her bedside, tears streaming down her face. Lucas was furious, his face dark with anger. He had already called the police.

Even with the Lovett family’s support, he couldn’t watch his daughter be bullied. Everyone knew it. If he let this go, anyone could walk over the Reed family from now on.

As soon as Lucas called the police, Henry–still lying in his hospital bed–was immediately taken away.

The Crawford family arrived at the hospital with Vincent. With Vincent present, Lucas toned down his words a bit, but he still refused to drop the charges.

“Mr. Reed, I know the Crawford family was in the wrong. But what’s done is done. We should be thinking about how to keep this from blowing up, right?

“Honestly, Noreen and Henry have known each other for ages. They’ve had meals together plenty of times. If they weren’t close, something like this never would’ve happened.”

Isabella immediately opened her mouth, ready to fire back. Her daughter was the Reed family’s pride and joy. Not just anyone, especially some loser, was worthy of her.

The Crawfords were just Lovett relatives, really just ordinary people making money off them. Noreen was good enough for Lovett’s man. She shouldn’t settle for a nobody who can’t even show his face in public.

Harridan let out a cold snort. “How old is your daughter, dressing so shamelessly? If your girl hadn’t been throwing herself at my grandson.

“Do you really think he’d have done something like this? Let the police handle it. We aren’t the ones who’ll end up losing out here anyway!

“Mom.” Karen grabbed Harridan’s arm, desperate to shut her up. Things were already a mess; she had to make it even worse.

Karen nudged Vincent with her elbow. Vincent cleared his throat and spoke up. The Lovett family and the Reed family have always worked well together in business. I’ve actually been thinking for a while that a marriage alliance would make both our families even stronger.

“But my oldest son is only fifteen, so…. engaged?”

Well, since Henry and Noreen really seem to hit it off, why not just let the two of them get

“The children of our Lovett family are all still in school, and it will be at least seven to eight years before they graduate. During this time, Henry will be working at Lovett Group, preparing to become the company’s general manager.

Karen said, boosting her nephew’s status with a smile. “Henry is a good boy; in his twenties, he has remained chaste, not even having a

girlfriend, and he only has eyes for Noreen.

Honestly, when it comes to picking a husband, what matters most is that he loves you and treats you right. Family background and all that? That’s just extra. Don’t you agree?

Isabella never thought Henry was good enough for Noreen, but if Noreen really liked him, there wasn’t much she could do about it. Lucas, on the other hand, picked up on the real message behind Vincent’s words. As long as the two families were joined by marriage, the Lovett family’s business would be open to the Reed family as well.

He said in a low, serious voice, “We’ll have to discuss this with Noreen. Once she wakes up, we’ll let you know.”

Hearing this, Karen felt only half–relieved. The Lovett family’s offer was tempting enough that, even if Noreen refused, Karen was sure Lucas would find a way to make her obey.

As soon as they stepped out of the hospital room, Vincent’s anger finally boiled over. He’d been humiliated at the party hall, laughed at and gossiped about, and now the Reed family was giving him the cold shoulder. He’d never been treated like this before.

His voice was icy as he snapped, “I told you ages ago to find Henry a proper job, but you never listened. I’ll handle this mess for now, but if something like this happens again, don’t expect the Lovett family to step in.”

Harridan was so angry she almost fell over. In this matter, the Crawford family clearly didn’t have the upper hand, so she started bringing up old grievances. “Back then, Karen had your baby, and then you turned back on her.

All he remembered was that one day, on his way home from work, he ran into Karen and Hallie. Hallie had called him “Dad“, and after that, everything just spun out of control.

Still, at the end of the day, he really had let Karen and Hallie down. He’d made Hallie go without a father for seven or eight years. He had no idea what to say, so he just walked off without another word.

Harridan immediately turned to Karen. “If you wanted to mess with that little tramp, why should Henry have to take the fall? Listen if anything happens to him in that detention center, you can bet I won’t let you off the hook.”

Karen felt a knot of worry in her stomach. ‘If even my mother could instantly see that she was would Vincent be able to figure it out too?

using Henry to scheme against Edith,

‘No, probably not. Vincent was so obsessed with Lovett Group that he never paid attention to the scheming that went on between women anyway.

‘Besides, as long as the Lovett and Crawford families managed to seal the marriage alliance, this whole mess would just be brushed aside, she wondered.

up,

Mandy knew they needed to ally with the Reed family to clear their name. The Reed family was powerful, and marrying their daughter would be a big win for the Crawfords.

Harridan took off the jade bracelet from her wrist. I’ll give this to Ms. Reed as a token of our family’s sincerity.

Karen was speechless. If she remembered right, that bracelet was worth just a little over 6 hundred dollars. If Isabella saw it, she’d probably have a fit on the SPOT
