Chapter 78
“You little bitch, I won’t let you off!” Harridan stood there with her hands on her hips, cursing up a storm.
Vincent’s face changed completely. ‘In the Lovett family, you dare to insult my daughter right in front of me? Do you think I don’t exist?
Just as he was about to tell someone to throw Harridan out, he suddenly felt a strong gust of wind.
A white blur zipped past his ear. And then he saw Harridan, who had been cursing nonstop, suddenly freeze. Her mouth, which had been flapping, was smeared with blood. She let out a shriek and clutched her upper lip.
But that stone was just too fierce. It had punched right through her upper lip, and blood kept streaming out, making the whole scene look downright terrifying.
Karen was completely stunned. “Mom, what happened? Why is your mouth suddenly bleeding like that?”
“Something… fell… fell on my mouth…” Harridan stammered. As soon as she opened her mouth, even more blood poured out. She spat, and to everyone’s shock, her front teeth actually came out with it.
“Mom, stop talking. I’ll take you to the hospital!” Karen said, panicking. Karen didn’t have time to think about anything else. Grabbing her little purse, she helped Harridan into the car.

In that instant, Edith felt a rush of heat in her abdomen, and power seemed to fill her entire body.
The Super Strength the system gave her before was raw force, but now she was starting to get the hang of how to actually control all that power.
As Edith was getting a feel for her new strength, she suddenly heard someone laughing. She snapped her head up and caught sight of three little heads peeking over the third–floor railing, only to see them quickly duck out of sight.
‘So that’s why Harridan’s mouth suddenly started bleeding. It was those three troublemakers, Edith thought.
“Edith.” Vincent let out a sigh.
Edith pulled herself together and looked at the person in front of her. Her expression was calm, almost emotionless.
Vincent had so many things he wanted to say, so many questions he wanted to ask. He wondered how the little girl who used to run home crying to complain became someone who could deal with a troublesome old lady so effortlessly.
He also wondered why there was now such an unhidden coldness in his once sweet and obedient daughter’s eyes. But all those questions just died on
his lips.
Suddenly, he felt a wave of relief. ‘Thank goodness Edith isn’t a weak girl. Otherwise, she would have ended up just like the heiress of the Reed family, he thought.
“Dad, do you know what it was like for me in the small town?” Edith said with a small smile. “All my classmates used to make fun of me because I didn’t have a mom or a dad.
“I told them I did have a dad, that my dad was doing business in Sunspire, but no one believed me. Even the teacher asked me, ‘If you have a dad, why did he leave you all alone here to fend for yourself?“”
Vincent’s face was filled with guilt and shame. All of a sudden, he realized he had just been pretending everything was fine, putting on the act of a loving father.
He thought that just showing up in the small town once a year meant he was really looking out for Edith, but in reality, he had never truly cared about her. ‘Edith became strong because no one was there to protect her,‘ he thought.

Chapter 78
“Dad, I don’t blame you,” Edith said, smiling gently, “I know Lovett Group has been on the rise these past few years, and I know go KL business. I never held any resentment against you.”
The more understanding she was, the more ashamed Vincent felt.
He opened his mouth, about to say something, but before he could get a word out, the door to the biggest bedroom on the second floor swing open. Mallie, looking perfectly put together and stylish, came hurrying down the stairs.
Hallie’s face was full of panic and disbelief. “Dad, something’s happened at Grandma’s place. Uncle’s been taken away by the investigators. Why aren’t you doing anything?
“Back when I hadn’t even returned to the Lovett family, it was he who took care of me and raised me. Dad, you have to help him, you just have to
Back then, whenever Hallie said things like this, Vincent would just think, ‘What a considerate daughter, always so grateful
But after hearing what Edith had just said, Hallie’s words now felt more like she was trying to guilt–trip him with things from the past.
He was just an ordinary guy, and with all the Lovett family’s messes he still hadn’t sorted out, he couldn’t possibly have the energy to deal with someone else’s problems.
His face darkened, and he said flatly, “The Crawford family’s business isn’t for a kid like you to worry about. You’re coming with me to school. You need to apologize properly to the principal. Maybe he will give you another. shot.”
Hallie didn’t dare say anything else. She already had enough of her own mess to deal with. She really had no business worrying about anything else. She smoothed her dress and followed Vincent out the door.
Before leaving, she glared fiercely at Edith. Edith didn’t spare her a glance. She just turned, sat down at the dining table, and took her time with
breakfast.
“Ms. Lovett,” Dallas walked over and said softly, “If only I had gone to see you more often in the small town during those six years.”
“It’s all in the past,” Edith replied with a light, unconcerned air. “Thank you for thinking of me, Dallas. I’m really okay.”
The whole house was managed by Karen, and every servant here was loyal to her. Only Dallas truly cared about the five siblings.
She paused for a moment, then said, “Dallas, I remember you have a son who’s studying for his master’s degree overseas, right?”
Dallas was six or seven years older than Vincent, and his son was a bit older than Vincent’s kids. He was already working on his graduate degree abroad.
Edith vaguely remembered that Dallas’s son had run into trouble overseas, maybe even lost his life there. After losing his only son, Dallas, with nothing left to hold onto, gradually came to see Cedric as his own child.
Three years later, when that terrible fire broke out, Dallas stayed behind so Cedric could escape, and ended up being burned alive.
“He’ll be graduating soon,” Dallas said, his face lighting up with pride. “He wants me to visit him overseas this summer, take me around and show me the sights. If things aren’t too busy here, I might even have to take some time off.”
Edith’s mind went blank with shock. ‘Wait, it was this summer!‘ she realized. After Karen married her off to Henry, Dallas had taken a leave to travel
abroad.
But less than a month into his trip, Dallas’s son had died overseas, killed in a random attack by some thugs, his body never even recovered.
When the Crawfords mentioned it, they just sneered that Dallas got what he deserved. “A lowly servant trying to act like the rich, going off on some world tour. Serves him right,” they said.
There were still more than two months left until summer break, so there was no need to hurry just yet. Edith kept it together. After finishing her breakfast, she gathered up the leftovers onto a plate.
“I’m going upstairs to do some homework. I’ll grab another bite later.” she said to Dallas. ‘This should be enough for him,‘ she thought.

Chapter 78
Just as she was about to head upstairs, a servant hurried over. “Ms. Lovett, Mr. Larson is here*
Larry had rushed over as soon as he woke up, his hair still a mess and worry written all over his face. “Edith!” he called out, his voice hall of arveldy
Edith asked, “Do you want to sit down and have some breakfast first?”
She knew exactly why Larry had shown up so early, but those three little troublemakers upstairs were as lively as ever, there was absolutely nothing t worry about when it came to them.
Breakfast was the last thing on Larry’s mind. Trying to hide his worry, he cleared his throat and said, “I was hoping to borrow a book from you
Edith stuffed a piece of bread into his mouth. “Come on, let’s go upstairs and get the book.”
Larry took a bite of the bread and followed her up.
